Melvin Alphonse "Demon" Anderson Jr., age 76, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.
Born in New Orleans on January 12, 1949, Melvin was the cherished son of the late Melvin Alphonse Anderson Sr. and Florence Harden. He was the proud grandson of the late Joseph Alphonse Anderson ("Poppie") and Lilian Burke Anderson ("Mamie"), and Wilfred Harden and Mildred Mills Gibson ("Taetae").
Melvin graduated from Scenic Industrial School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he studied sociology and political science. He was a man of quiet strength-loyal, courageous, compassionate, patient, and humble. His life was deeply rooted in love for his children and family.
He spent over two decades working as a machine operator at Plywood Paneling Company and later served in facility maintenance at Lake Lawn Cemetery, where he retired. Melvin found joy in simple pleasures: watching sports, westerns, and classic sitcoms. He was a devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints and especially enjoyed the program Amos 'n' Andy.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Glover Anderson, and his children: Zindell Anderson, Hope Whittington, Melvin Glover Anderson III / Brejean Balancier, Joseph Glover Anderson, Kyle Glover Anderson / Alisha Curtis, and sister-in-laws: Cynthia Scott, and Tanya Glover, and Cousin: Michael Gibson, Clarence "Red" Dorsey, and Daryle Gibson.
He was a proud grandfather to Ayronada Smith, Jody Fitzgerald Harris Jr., Kourtney Whittington, Bre'yona Herbert, Ke'yona Herbert, Zaqhiir Glover, Briella Balancier, Melvin Glover Anderson IV, Jocylra Wilson, Jokeira Wilson, Jomyra Mathis, James Mathis, Shaniqua Gibson, Kyle Tucker, Akysha Glover, Akyia Glover, and Akylei Glover.
His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Asia Clark, Rileigh Moses, Celcee Cates, Jody Fitzgerald Harris III, Ke'nomi Brimmer, Ava Wilson, Ky'Leigh Tucker, and Ma'siah James Sheppard.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and beloved relatives: Author Gibson Jr., Nora Lee Fortner, Barbara Harvey, Robert Jones, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Rhodes Funeral Home, located at 3933 Washington Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70125 at 11:30am. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am.
