Melvin Eugene Caskey, born November 5, 1948, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away on February 8, 2026. He was born to Betty Jane Caskey Barrett and was raised by Archie Gladwell Barrett.

Melvin proudly served his country as a United States Marine and bravely fought in the Vietnam War. His service reflected his strength, dedication, and deep sense of duty, qualities that remained evident throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jane Barrett; his father, Archie Gladwell Barrett; his sister, Linda Faye Tolleson; and his nephew, Bo Dylan Barrett.

Melvin is survived by his daughter, Caroline Hardee, and her husband, Scott, as well as his two grandsons, Hagen and Tristan Hardee. He is also survived by his sisters, Darlene Walton and Donna Williams, his brother, Archie Preston Barrett, and his wife, Cathy.

He leaves behind many beloved nieces, including Sheila Perduyn, Carol Blair, Crystal Bynog, Brandi Ashby, Sarah Walton, Randi Ashby, Jessica Acker, Jenna Walton, Kimberly Thornton, Jenifer Whiteside, and Jillian Whiteside; and nephews David Justin Tolleson, Navy Lieutenant Commander Jimi Wyatt, Blake Nichols, Preston Barrett, Spencer Barrett, and Donald Whiteside, Jr. Melvin also leaves numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews who will carry forward his memory.

Melvin was known for his unique personality, warm heart, and remarkable generosity. He had a special way of making people laugh and feel valued. To many, he was simply "Uncle Melvin," a title he carried with love, humor, and pride. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
