My grandparents bought one of Melvin's paintings at a show put on by (Toledo) Art Interests, Inc. I believe it was a show to encourage young artists. I can't make out the year, but it appears he was in high school and his teacher was Robert Bowen. Before my mother died, she said out of all her possessions, all three of her children wanted that painting, which I now have. It's a pleasure to read more about what a fine person Melvin was and that he continued expressing his artistic gift. Reading about his life makes the painting even more special. I send my condolences to Melvin's family. MHSRIP

Our love and deep sympathy to Mrs. Claybrooks, your children, Bobbyette and the rest of your family. Growing up, Mel was a sweetheart of a young man and we trust that he always remained so. This is a shock to us as we are only now learning of his passing. May God continue to watch over you and keep you all in His strong and loving arms.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Pat and Jasper Wiggins
