Melvin Joe Hajny passed away at Hebron, NE on June 8, 2023, at the age of 74 years and 1 day.
Melvin was born on June 7, 1949, at Red Cloud, NE to Nolin Hajny and Lorna (Underwood) Hajny. He graduated from Esbon, KS with the class of 1967. Melvin enlisted in the United States Navy on August 18, 1967 to May 10, 1971. He served in Vietnam.
Melvin worked as a diesel mechanic for many years and worked for Jewell County, KS for a time.
Mel's hobbies were woodworking, fishing, deer and coon hunting, working word puzzles and reading Western books. He enjoyed family get-togethers, especially his grandchildren.
He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Oregon Trail and Republican Valley Coon Hunters Associations.
He married Jacque Shipman and were divorced. To this union five children were born, Melissa, Corey, Jarrod, Ashley and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorna Hajny, Melissa (infant daughter), his son Corey, and his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his dog Scooter.
Melvin is survived by his father Nolin Hajny, his sons Jarrod (Lacey), and Andrew; his daughter Ashley Hajny; his siblings Sherry (Bob) Young, Bradley (Kathy) Hajny; his five grandchildren Wyatt, Josie and Monte Hajny, Jaeden Hughes, and Jaxson Hajny; his significant other Helen Chancellor; and many family and friends.
Melvin's graveside service will be Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Guide Rock Cemetery in Guide Rock, NE. Melvin chose cremation so there will be no viewing. Memorials may be addressed to the family for later designation. Price Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is assisting the family with arrangements.
