Melvin Hancock Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watson-Hunt Funeral Home - Perry on Oct. 18, 2024.
PERRY –
Melvin Hillman Hancock, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, just five days before his eighty-fifth birthday. Visitation will be on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Melvin's life will be held on Saturday. October 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Melvin's favorite color was red. The family respectfully requests that everyone wear red to the visitation and funeral in memory of Melvin.
Melvin was born on October 21, 1939, in Roberta to the late Lee and Flossie Hancock. He graduated from Fort Valley High School in 1957 and proudly served our country in the U. S. Navy for four years. Melvin was a successful insurance agent with various companies throughout his career spanning over sixty years. He loved golf and was a master at chipping. Melvin was a member of Perry Country Club and Houston Lake Country Club where he often played golf with his family, friends, and clients. He was quite competitive and enjoyed playing in scrambles and tournaments when he could. During his latter years, Melvin worked with Easterlin Pecans, visiting and selling to customers who became his friends. Aside from golf, Melvin's passion was his family. He was affectionately known as Dad, Husband, Brother, Grandan, G-Boy, and G. He and his beloved wife just celebrated their sixty-second anniversary, which made him so proud. A saying that he lived and believed – "A man's heart plans his course, but the Lord directs his steps." He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Perry.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Melvin are his loving and devoted wife, Janice Hancock of Perry; his children, Dana Hancock Carpenter (Jeff) of Saint Simons Island, Jarad Hancock and Jason Hancock (Kim) of Perry; his grandchildren, Cohen Carpenter (Lexi), Heath Hancock (Maddie), Marissa Hancock, Abigail Harwood (Clay), and Hillman Hancock; his great-grandchildren, Ophelia Carpenter, Eleanor Carpenter, and Laramie Harwood; his sisters, Jean Waddell (Richard) and Kathy Dixon (Donnie); his brother, Derrell Hancock; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
