Melvin Dean Hunt, age 89, of Louisville, KY returned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 30, 2025. He was born in Marion County, Kentucky on Tuesday, February 18, 1936, to the late John Dewey Hunt and Bessie Leona Hunt. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Judith Page Hunt, his siblings, Robert Dewey Hunt, Thomas Lee Hunt, Ledona Fay Smith, Edward Carroll Hunt, Debra Susan Bolin, and his sister-in-law, Donna Mae Hunt (née Petty).

He was an Air Force Veteran enlisted during the Korean war era. He was last stationed at Holloman Air Force Base where he served as a Missile Guidance Systems Technician on the White Sands Missile Range.

Dean's career with Southern Bell (later South Central Bell and BellSouth) began in 1965 in Bowling Green, with subsequent transfers to Paducah and finally Louisville. His work at the phone company was in technical service and included much traveling in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama. The latter part of his career was with BellSouth Mobility choosing sites for cell phone towers to be installed. He accepted an offer of early retirement in 1995 to spend time with Judy in their gardens.

He was a member of Fern Creek Christian Church where he served as a deacon, and later became a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

He was also involved in various clubs such as The Louisville Astronomical Society, The Louisville Area Iris Society, Louisville Area Daylily Society, American Hosta Society, and Botanica (now known as Waterfront Botanical Gardens).

Dean leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Paul Robert Hunt, John Daniel Hunt and Ellen Elizabeth Hunt; his granddaughter, Kristen Taylor Hunt (Jason Waddle); his sister-in-law, Estelita "Lita" Hunt, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
