Melvin Ingebretson Obituary

Melvin Ingebretson

April 14, 1950 - December 27, 2024

Melvin Barry Ingebretson, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, at the age of 74.

A service celebrating Melvin's life will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in 310 1st Ave N, Clear Lake, Iowa, where family and friends are invited to share memories and honor the legacy of a life that touched so many.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to One Vision (formerly known as Opportunity Village) or another organization supporting individuals with special needs, in gratitude for the support and care that enriched Melvin's life.

Born on April 14, 1950, in Mason City, Iowa, Melvin was the cherished son of Max and Irene Ingebretson, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his siblings, Mike Ingebretson, Mark Ingebretson, and Maureen Ingebretson Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom hold countless treasured memories of a brother and uncle who brought joy and lessons to their lives.

Melvin spent his childhood and young adult life at home in Thornton, where he developed a love for playing board games, watching sports, and collecting baseball cards. His favorite board game was Monopoly, which he played with enthusiasm and great affection for those friends who joined him and brightened his life with their kindness.

As an adult, Melvin found a second family and home at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, Iowa, where he lived for many decades. Opportunity Village provided a nurturing and supportive environment for Melvin to thrive and engage with a community that cherished his vibrant spirit. In his later years, Melvin moved to Oakwood Care Center, where he continued to be cared for with compassion and dignity.

Melvin knew every staff member's name at Oakwood and called out a greeting to each one as they passed by his room. He was so friendly and enjoyed visiting with staff and residents. His warmth and cheerful conversations were a highlight to those around him, leaving a lasting impression of his kindness and genuine interest in others.

Melvin's life reflected resilience, joy, and the beauty of simple acts of kindness. His desire to contribute his joy in being part of family and community, and his enduring optimism gently reminded those around him of the values of forgiveness, gratitude, and love. His family finds solace in knowing he is reunited with his parents and surrounded by eternal peace.

Melvin will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who were blessed to know and love him.
