Melvin Tyrone Pittman was born on November 30, 1960 in Nash County, NC, to the late Marjorie Hill Pittman Joyner and Fate Pittman Jr. Melvin was raised by his grandparents the late Fate Pittman Sr. and Bessie Pittman on a farm in Nash County, NC. He loved to ride and race horses, His grandfather would shoe the horse and give him and his siblings the old horseshoe. which is why he was so good at horseshoe. He drove tractor in the field, picked cotton, worked in tobacco fields, and also work on the farm. Melvin attended Nash County schools and attended Weldon High School. Where he developed a close relationship with his favorite teachers "The Edward's who he would still visit til this day.

Melvin moved to Washington, DC in 1976, where he began his career as a carpenter. "Our dad was a jack of all trades" Melvin had many businesses, starting with his Home Improvement business. He helped to build "Murray's Steakhouse". He would help his dad at "Mr. P's Ribs" on the weekends. He became a Maintenance Technician for years. Most recently working at "The Collington" for past ten years. Our dad was a hardworking man in every job he ever had.

He was a man that loved his family and proved it everyday. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Melvin had quite a few things that he loved. He played baseball and basketball in his youth days. He loved cooking and was well known for his "Minced BBQ and Ribs. He was recognized as being the "GOAT" at playing horseshoes. Bowling and fishing well also things that he like to do. Let's not forget that this NC native was a Washington REDSKINS/Commanders fan for life whether they won or lost.

Melvin is preceded in death by grandparents Merlin Hill Sr, and Lizzie Jones. Wife Sarita Jones-Pittman. Brother Stanley King. Nephews Shondale and Dwane Pittman. Aunts and Uncles James, Nello, Thurman and Zeno Pittman, Merlin Hill Jr, Shirley Washington, Rebecca Cutts, and Patricia Cowan.

Melvin leaves behind to cherish his memories his daughters; Shamika Jones, Janeen (Matthew) Curry and Markeida (Doug) Jones. His grandchildren Kemontae' Jamari, Mekhi, Jagger Jones, and Eddie Gamble Jr. His great grandchildren Mykel and Khori Jones. His sisters Connie (Dwane) Cowan, and Janice Pittman. His nieces and nephew Kelley and Neil Cowan, Shanta and Tashia Pittman. His aunts and uncles Joyce Alston, Queenie McBride, Edith Green, Bobby Hill Sr. , Theodore Pittman and a host of cousins and friends.
