Melvin Raney Spencer, 70, of Bridgewater, VA passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Mr. Spencer was born on May 27, 1955 in Franklin County, VA and was a son of the late Erie Lee and Mamie Pauline (Rakes) Spencer. Melvin worked for Sunnyside Retirement Community for more than 30 years. He later worked for CDI Cabinets for seven years before his retirement. Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, and playing bluegrass music. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Spencer is survived by his children, Randall Spencer and wife, Kim of Bridgewater, Regina Armentrout and husband, Ethan of Weyers Cave; brothers, Rodney Spencer of Franklin County, VA, and Rick Spencer of McGaheysville; one grandchild, Skyler Randall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no formal visitation with the family present, however there will be calling hours from 12 until 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11 a.m., at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Pastor Todd Yoder officiating.

Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to the Clover Hill Volunteer Fire Company, 2100 Clover Hill Road, Dayton, VA 22821; or to the Bridgewater Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 268, Bridgewater, VA 22812.

I worked with Melvin at Sunnyside, he was always very nice and would help you out anytime you needed it. He was one that never met a stranger while here at Sunnyside. May he rest in peace!
