Melvin Douglas Stewart,  passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, in Carrollton, Kentucky, at the age of 86. Born on July 27, 1939, in Milton, Kentucky, Melvin lived a life characterized by his dedication to family, friends, and his many passions. Melvin attended Carroll County High School, where afterwards he started working with Sam Adams. He formerly worked at Whittenberg Construction, Craig Construction, and Welty Manufactured Home Sales, doing masonry work. He was a member of KY Carpenters Union #64.

Melvin was a devoted father and grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of love and support. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Ann (Blandon) Toombs of Carrollton, Kentucky. His close family includes sister-in-law Brenda Brown and brother-in-law Butch Brown.  Melvin was fondly remembered by his close friends, Carolyn Jones, Larry Willhoite, and  Keith Vannarsdall, several nieces and nephews and special cousins Wes Stewart, Sandra Bethel Wilson and Hazel Willhoite. His grandchildren, Ashlea (Kenny) Worner, Lauren Toombs, and Jasmine Smith, along with one great-granddaughter, were a source of immense pride and joy for him.

Throughout his life, Melvin enjoyed many hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He had a deep love for watching UK Basketball and often found relaxation in his recliner, where he enjoyed watching classic westerns. An avid gardener, he took great pleasure in nurturing his plants, and he shared many delightful fishing trips for bluegill with his son-in-law, creating lasting memories on the water.

Melvin's commitment to community was evident through his coaching endeavors. He made notable contributions to local sports, having coached the ladies' softball team known as Mel's Belles, as well as men's softball and youth T-ball and G-ball. His leadership and encouragement inspired many young athletes, solidifying his status as a respected figure in the community. Melvin was a member of Turners Station Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest "Dutch" Stewart and Thelma Eaves Stewart, as well as his beloved wife, Patsy Stewart. Melvin mourned the loss of his daughters, Wendy Stewart and Carla Boyer, and was also predeceased by his sister, Ruby McCoy, and brother-in-law Larry McCoy. Additionally, his mother and father-in-law, Roy and Ruby McManis, left a significant impact on his life and will be lovingly remembered.

Visitation for Melvin will be held on January 7, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home located at 809 Highland Ave, Carrollton, KY. The funeral service will take place the following day, January 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with interment services afterwards at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton, Ky.

Melvin Douglas Stewart will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His genuine spirit, dedication to family, and lasting contributions to his community will be fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched.

Per Melvin's wishes,  UK attire is encouraged.

Memorial Gifts may be given to the V Foundation in lieu of flowers.
