Elder Melvin Thomas

Elder Melvin Thomas was born February 21, 1939, to Benjamin and Alice Thomas in Holland, Texas. He attended school in the Holland Independent School District and graduated from Bartlett Colored High in 1958, where he was on the football team, and track and field team. He married Mary Jane Binder on July 20, 1959. He was licensed as a Minister at Bibleway Church of God in Christ, Killeen, Texas, on April 28, 1996. He served as Pastor for nineteen years at Evans Chapel Church of God in Christ, LaGrange, Texas, now known as Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ, later retiring. He received his Certificate of Ordination July 20, 2001, from Texas Southwest Jurisdictional Bishop S.E. Iglehart. In 2011, he served as Assistant Superintendent of the LaGrange District. He united with Greater Zion Temple Church of God in Christ in 2019. In 2022, he was appointed to the office of Elders and Ministers Alliance-Senior Elder; also serving on the Finance Committee, Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, Trustee Board, and as Musician. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, O.B. Thomas, Ollie Thomas, Billy Thomas, Benny Thomas, and Henry Lee Thomas; seven sisters, Elizabeth Thomas, Fannie Lee Thomas, Valley Mae Jenkins, Ruth Sauls, Inez Fletcher, Jerelene Carlton, and Birdell Willis.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Jane Thomas of Temple, Texas; sons, Melvin Thomas of Harker Heights and Dennis Thomas (LaShirle) and Danny Thomas both of Temple; one brother, Jim Thomas of Victorville, California; sisters, Georgia Sauls of Temple, Texas, Faye Richardson of Austin and Nettie McCraney of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
