Melvin Truch Obituary

Visit the Greenwood Funeral Home website to view the full obituary.
Melvin Truch, age 93, passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2026. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Melvin spent his life rooted in the city he loved, surrounded by family, friends, and a community that meant so much to him.

Melvin was the beloved husband of Rose Marie DeSalvo Truch, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and devotion. Together, they raised two children, Paul Truch (Patricia) and Melrose Truch Dugas (Ray). Melvin was a proud and loving grandfather to Britney, Chad (Olivia), Danielle, and Blake, and was overjoyed to become a great-grandfather to Camila Rose. He is also survived by his sister, Janie Truch Wright (Clifford - deceased), as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

We take comfort in knowing he is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Joseph and Eniz Roche Truch, his brother, Joseph "Joe" Truch, and the great-grandchildren who went before him, Lyric and Cyril.

Melvin built a long and respected career in telecommunications. He was an active member of St. Catherine's of Siena men's club as well as St. Angela Merici's men's club.

One of the roles he held most proudly was his service to his country. A devoted Korean War veteran, he remained active for many years in the Korean veterans' association of Greater New Orleans and looked forward to participating in their yearly gatherings and celebrations. His patriotism and pride in serving his country remained with him throughout his life.

To those who knew him, Melvin was simply "good as gold." He had a natural gift for conversation and never met a stranger. Friends and family affectionately referred to him as the "Mouth of the South" because he loved to talk, laugh, and share stories with anyone who would listen. His kindness, patience, and genuine interest in people made others feel instantly comfortable in his presence.

Melvin also had a special love for his dogs, who were always a cherished part of his life. Whether spending time with family, visiting with friends, or simply sharing a story and a smile, he lived with a generous spirit and a warm heart. He was known as a truly kind and patient soul who treated everyone he met with respect, compassion, and friendliness.

Above all, Melvin will be remembered for the love he gave to his family and the countless conversations, laughs, and moments he shared with those around him. His presence, wisdom, and gentle nature will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 p.m., with military honors including taps and presentation of the flag. Burial will take place at the gravesite at 1:45 p.m.

The family invites all who knew and loved Melvin to join them in honoring and celebrating a life well lived.
