Melvis Carter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Byrum Funeral Home Inc. on Jan. 30, 2026.
Melvis Maurine Mosley Carter went to be with the Lord on January 29, 2026. A visitation will be held on February 3, 2026 from 10:30am-12:30pm at Byrum Funeral Home, 425 N Dallas Ave, Lancaster, TX. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, 4600 N Beltline Rd, Sunnyvale, TX.

Maurine, as everyone knew her, was born on May 3, 1933, in Normangee, TX on the side of a river bank and raised in the area. She was the daughter of "King" James Ester and Everett Mosley. Maurine was the proud mother of three children. Frankie Salamone, Nita Duncan and Nada Boerner. She had 7 grandkids, 7 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Her first job was being an operator at Southwestern Bell, back when it was a true "plug in" to connect people's conversations.

Maurine's next job was working for Texas Instruments. She started as an entry level employee and worked her way up being taught along the way by people willing to help her grow because she was a quick learner who always worked hard. While at TI, she was on the team who built the very first robot that TI ever made. The part she specifically worked on was the vision for the robot. She was very proud of that accomplishment. After working for many years, she was put on forced retirement three times. However, she would be put on contract work that began the very next day as she had to train the person who was going to be taking her place. She officially retired for good in the early 90's.

During her TI years she lived in Aubrey, TX. She lived on a dairy farm with her husband Harvey Carter and really enjoyed the extended family coming to visit. The visitors were able to experience country living to the fullest; including fishing, hunting, horse riding, picking blackberries (on the halves of course!), and even milking cows if they were up for the challenge.

While working at TI, Maurine also had a side hustle of being a barber, following in her brother Lloyd's footsteps. She also did clean up for new builds after Lonnie built houses.

Later in Maurine's retirement she enjoyed sewing. She made many items for the grandchildren and other relatives including a variety of clothes and blankets. She also learned how to crochet and made afghans for many friends and family to enjoy. She enjoyed cooking and baking with the granddaughters. They have many treasured memories of this. Another thing that Maurine really loved was square dancing. She did this for years and traveled all over for competitions, including Las Vegas twice!

Maurine is preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law Lonnie and Jynnifer Mosley, her sister and brother-in-law RayAnn and Onie Burrow, her husband Harvey B Carter, long time friend Jim Reid, and grandchildren Melissa Boerner and John Boerner.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Frankie and Cindy Salamone, daughter and son-in-law Nita Duncan and Jeff Stier, and daughter Nada Boerner. Grandchildren Shannon and Joe Hallam, Jason and Stacie Salamone, Justin and Lisa Boerner, James Duncan, and Stephanie Donaldson. Great grandchildren Katie Hallam, Lillie Hallam, Lacey Litteken, Haley Duncan, Breanna Donaldson, Leighanna Donaldson, and Linzey Donaldson. Great great grandchildren Sadi Litteken, Sawyer Morales, and Haizleigh Mattson.
