Melvyn Lissner, 90, of Monroe Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2026.

Born on December 4, 1935, he grew up in the Weequahic section of Newark, NJ, with a deep appreciation for family, friends, and hard work. Those early values shaped the man he became throughout his long life.

Melvyn ("Mel") wore many hats over the years. From grammar school teacher to residential real estate broker, and ultimately to his long and meaningful career as a real estate educator, he dedicated himself to helping others learn and succeed. Hundreds of students graduated from the Mel Lissner School of Real Estate and remember him as a caring and impactful "professor" with endless stories and a genuine desire to see his students thrive.

His stories were also a treasured part of his personal life, where he entertained family and friends with tales from his many life experiences. Throughout his years, he touched countless lives with his kindness, humor, and unwavering loyalty. Whether sharing stories, offering guidance, or simply being a constant presence, Mel had a way of making others feel seen and valued.

He cherished his family above all else and took great pride in the relationships he nurtured over the decades. His legacy lives on in the people who were fortunate enough to know him and in the memories that will continue to bring comfort and warmth.

Mel was predeceased by his loving parents, Sadie and Murray Lissner. He is survived by his children, Steven (Ronnie) and Mindy (Phil); his partner of 30 years, Claire Briller, his brother, Clark (Cecilia); his grandchildren Scott (Sally), Amy (Brian), Jill (Scott), Morgan, and Zachary; and his great grandchildren Hannah, Isabelle, Eva, and baby Tyler. Claire's children-Meryl (Jim), Lisa (Wilson), and Debra (Ian)-and her grandchildren Phili (Jesse), Eli, Max, Simon, Noa, Jonah, Leo and great grandchildren Spencer, Oliver, Lily and David were also his family, all loved and cherished by Mel. He also leaves behind his friend and faithful companion, Alfie the poodle.

A funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 1:15 PM at The Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah located at 735 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652 . Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor a life well lived. Following the funeral, the family will receive guests from 4-7:30 at the home of Steve and Ronnie Lissner 15 Old Wood Lane South, Randolph, NJ

May the stories he shared-and the ones we carry forward-keep his spirit alive in all of us.

My deepest condolences to Mel's family and loved ones. He was the best instructor and helped me obtain my brokers license on my first try. He had a way of making you understand and often used acronyms that I still have imbedded in my brain years 30 plus years later. He was an incredible man and the world is a better place because of him. May his family be comforted and may he rest in peace.
