Melvyn Wilke Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 16, 2025.
Melvyn Jon Wilke, affectionately known as "Popster," was born on February 7, 1935, in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was called to eternal life on November 9, 2025, at the age of 90. He was the devoted husband of the late Agnes Marie Wilke (Pientok), and a loving father to Brenda Hough. Melvyn's legacy will forever resonate through his cherished granddaughter, Jessica Knaak, who lovingly referred to him as her surrogate father, hero, guardian angel, and best friend. He also takes with him the joy of being a doting great-grandfather to Jacob (Chloe) and Sarah Knaak.

Melvyn, a proud veteran of the Korean War, served honorably in the Army before embarking on a noteworthy career in food production. His journey began with Coca-Cola, where he drove trucks and eventually took on a management role. Later, he continued his contributions at Patrick Cudahy until his well-deserved retirement at the age of 73.

As a lifetime resident of Cudahy, Wisconsin, Melvyn embraced his community with open arms. He enjoyed a wide range of activities, from golfing, bowling, and fishing, to fiercely supporting the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers, and the Cudahy High School football team. Family road trips and cruises with Agnes were highlights of his life, as were lively game nights filled with laughter, competition, and friendly banter. Playing pranks on family and friends was a passion as well. His competitive spirit shone brightly in games of Yahtzee, checkers with his granddaughter (who he always beat), and Words With Friends (he won many more games than he lost), where he formed lasting bonds with friends near and far. He was a trivia whiz who was still answering nearly every Double Jeopardy question up until the day before he passed.

Melvyn's remarkable ability to share joy and kindness will be missed by many, including his friends and extended family. He is survived by his sister-in-law Clara Armbruster and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Frank and Verna Pientok, as well as sisters-in-law; Helen Kuka, Rosie Dahl, and Polly Pronschinske, and brothers-in-law, Luke Pientok, Bruno Pientok, and Francis Pientok and their spouses.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to those who provided care and support during Melvyn's final days, especially dear friends and neighbors, Steve and Kristy Adams, and their newly adopted family members, Laura Adams and Colette.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church, located at 8519 S. 13th Street, Oak Creek, WI 53154. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service, allowing friends and family to gather in honor of Melvyn's remarkable life. Later, all are invited to join for a post-gathering celebration at Classic Lanes Bowling Center, located at 7501 S Howell Avenue, Oak Creek, WI 53154.

As we remember Melvyn, let us hold dear the countless memories of laughter, wisdom, and love he generously shared throughout his life. He will be profoundly missed but cherished forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
