Mercedes Ann Schaefer, age 93, of Menasha, died Thursday, January 8, 2026. She was born on March 10, 1932, to the late Edwin and Beatrice (Loerke) Schulz.
On May 14, 1966, Merc married Donald Rosenbohm. He preceded her in death in 2000. She then married LeRoy "Lee" Schaefer on November 29, 2003. He preceded her in death in 2023.
Merc spent 40 years working in Benefits (Pension Department) at Kimberly-Clark, where she formed many close and lasting friendships. She loved living on Lake Winnebago, tending to her yard and flowers, and caring for the wildlife that shared her beautiful lakeside home. An avid outdoorswoman, Merc enjoyed spending time in the Northwoods and especially loved Muskie fishing. She took many memorable trips across the US and also fishing trips to Canada. She was a proud Green Bay Packers fan and season ticket holder.
Mercedes was blessed with special cousins: Faythe Weber and Kathy Wagner. She is survived by other close family members that were like her children: Wendy (Charlie) Gehl and their children: Allison (Erik) Becker (Jordan, Everly, and Reese) and Courtney (Chris) Hannegan (Vera); Donald (Janet) Wagner and their children: Meghan (Ryan) Clemo, Kristen (Josh) Kukowski, and Josh (Maria) Wagner; David (Kay) Wagner and their children: Andrea (Calvin) Buechler (Brooks) and Brandon Wagner; Michael (Jody) Wagner and their children: Ashton and Caleb Wagner; Michele Berkholtz and her children: Stephanie Berkholtz, Liz (Jake) Erschen, and Tom (fiancée Abby) Berkholtz; and Jackie (Pat) Minick and their children: Jake (Megan) Minick (Layla and Olivia) and Kristin Minick; and special friend, Lina (Blake) Briones. She is also survived by Lee's children: Michael (Marjorie) Schaefer, Matthew (special friend Stacey) Schaefer, Chris (Stephen) Schaefer, Lisa (Tim) Lemons, and James (Heidi) Schaefer; his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild; as well as other relatives and close friends.
Mercedes was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Rosenbohm and Lee Schaefer; her parents, Edwin and Beatrice Schulz; Special cousins Lonnie Wagner, James Wagner and Mike Weber; Godson, James Weber; and special uncle and aunt, Roman Loerke and Estelle (Norbert) Wagner.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026, at ST. JOHN-SACRED HEART PARISH (N369 Military Road, Sherwood) from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Michael Betley will officiate, assisted by Deacon Tim Stevenson. Committal Sacred Heart Cemetery.
