Remembering Merle “Dale” Campaign
July 16, 1931 – February 11, 2026
Today, we gather in love and remembrance to celebrate the life of Merle Dale Campaign — lovingly known to family and friends as “Dale.”
On February 11, 2026, at the age of 94, Dale peacefully departed this life. Born on July 16, 1931, he lived a life defined by service, devotion to family, leadership, and the simple joys that leave lasting imprints on the hearts of those who knew him.
Dale began life as an only child. That shaped him. It instilled independence, resilience, and a quiet strength that would carry him through every season of his life. From an early age, he learned how to stand firm — and stand faithfully.
As a young man, Dale proudly served his country in the Korean War, demonstrating courage and resilience. He did not serve for recognition; he served because it was his duty. Because he loved his country. Because it was right.
Years later, he received well-deserved honors and medals in recognition of his service — a long-awaited acknowledgment made possible through the dedication of Mr. Harvey Taylor, for whom Dale remained deeply grateful. That moment was not about applause; it was about honor.
Following his military service, Dale continued serving others in Chautauqua, New York. He served his community faithfully as both a Deputy and later as Mayor in Celoron, NY. Dale was also a Truck Driver for Lyon’s Transportation. For Dale, leadership was not about authority — it was about responsibility. It was about protecting and guiding with integrity.
He later settled in Florida, where he often spent winters with his late wife, Roberta. Years later, Dale met Carmen and embraced a fulfilling new chapter in his life. He became an active member of the Saint Lucie Cricket and Sports Association and later an honorary member. He formed MANY cherished friendships and remained connected to community life.
Dale is survived by his devoted wife, Carmen. Together they shared cherished moments — long walks on the beach at the Fort Pierce Jetty, fine dining, cruises, and lively entertainment. Their companionship was steady and sweet. Carmen stated, “Dale was not only my husband, He was also my best friend.”
He leaves behind his sons Terry, Tim (Deena), and Thomas; his only daughter, Kristine (Bruce) Buerger; granddaughters, Laura, Angela, Megan, and Gabrielle; Grandsons, Andrew, Jeffery, Joel, and Jacob; bonus children Patricia (Keith), Mark, Christopher, Victoria and Wayne(John); along with a host of bonus grandchildren and bonus great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Roberta Campaign, and his parents.
Though he began life as an only child, he leaves behind generations — a powerful legacy of love.
Dale found happiness in life’s meaningful and simple pleasures. He loved woodworking and arts and crafts, shaping wood with steady hands and patience. He loved cooking and baking — especially using his grandmother’s treasured recipes.
And many of us can picture him now — remote control in hand — settling in to watch his beloved western films and favorite television shows. He enjoyed word search puzzles that kept his mind sharp. He loved reading — and he especially cherished the books his daughter Kristine faithfully mailed to him without fail. That ritual was more than reading; it was a connection. It was love sent through pages.
Those quiet moments — television playing softly, puzzle book nearby, a novel in hand — were part of what made him content.
Dale lived a great and honorable life — one filled with service, laughter, devotion, and unwavering strength.
