Merle "Jack" Hull, 85, of Quincy, IL, passed away at 10:45 pm Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at St. Vincent's Home in Quincy, IL.
Friends and Family are invited to Jack`s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Monday, July 18, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL.
Jack was born July 3, 1937, in Quincy, IL to Merle C. and Dora (Lease) Hull. He was married to Marilyn Sue Walker on June 26, 1958, at the Vermont St. Methodist Church in Quincy, IL. She survives.
In addition to his wife, other survivors include his daughter, Cindy Hull Sexton of Quincy, IL; one grandson, Christopher Hull Sexton (Sarah) of Cleveland, OH; one great grandson, Everett James Sexton; his second great-grandchild due in November; two sisters-in-law, Jane Lubbering of Kirksville, MO and Joyce Lear of Hannibal, MO; and two cousins, Donna Tappe of Quincy, IL and Kent Hull of Indiana.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law, Lynn Lubbering and Donley Lear; one niece, Kim Lear Muehring; and one nephew, Bruce Lear.
Jack was a 1955 graduate of Quincy High School. He attended Kirksville State Teachers School (Truman State) in Kirksville, MO.
After college, Jack joined the family dry cleaning business at Town and Country Cleaners and later at Uptown Cleaners. After 30 years, he retired from the dry-cleaning business. He went to work for Dene Lambkin Honda, retiring from there in 2010.
Jack was a well-known golfer in Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa. He made sure to play in the local club tournaments each summer.
Jack`s love of golf started at age 10 when he worked as a caddie at the Quincy Country Club. At age 14, he entered his first City Golf Tournament. He played on the QHS Golf Team and the Kirksville State Golf Team. He won the City Golf Tournament in 1958 and played in 57 consecutive City Tournaments. He was also a two-time Club Champion at the Spring Lake Country Club.
In 1994, Jack coached the John Wood Community College Men's Golf Team, where they won the Region 24 Division 3 Championship. That same year, he was voted Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches. He was later inducted into the Quincy Golf Hall of Fame in 2015.
He was a former member of the Elks Club, Spring Lake Country Club, Quincy Country Club, and the Westview Golf Club. Jack enjoyed getting catfish dinners from Kelly`s even though he hated fishing. He had a great sense of humor, was very easygoing, and he never knew a stranger. He had a large amount of love in his heart for his family. From sports games to being "partners in crime", he was always there for his family, and he was proud of them every step of the way. Jack was a great dad, husband, grandpa, and friend.

Dear Sue and Cindy - don't really have the right words to say about Jack's passing. He has been such a part of all of our lives the last 40 years - so many trips to Florida, so many memories, so many fun times. Hope he can play some Heavenly Golf with Lou. Love and Sympathy to you from our Family - he will be missed.
