Merle Winge Obituary
Born November 7, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN, he was the son of the late Kenneth Lee Winge and Orleatha Ellen Beedle Winge. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Judy Gerber; brother, Charles Winge; brother-in-law, Dave Averill and great grandchild, Roen Aronson.
He retired from the United States Navy and later retired as a safety manager for the Department of Defense. He was a member of Truth Baptist Church in Starr. Merle was a devout Christian who loved to lead others to the Lord. He was a loving man who worked hard to provide for his family. Married to the love of his life, Fran for 51 years, they enjoyed spending time with family. He was easy going, a huge Minnesota Vikings fan, a deacon and pillar to the church. He witnessed to people while in the hospital. His faith was strong and truly a man of God. A coach of many sports, bowling and golfing were his hobbies.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Prince Winge; sons, Kenny Winge (Lisa), Mark Winge (Judy) and Drew Adams; daughters, Kim Fox and Kelley Bourgeois (Blaise); brothers, Kenneth Winge (Roxy) and Gary Winge (Deanna); sisters, Betty Jo Pittelkow (Richard), Rosemary Averill, Patricia Betzold (Richard), Cynthia Winge and Vickie Patterson; also survived by 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 10:30 am – 11:15 am at Truth Baptist Church in Starr. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 am with Dr. Marty Minto officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Truth Baptist Church, Starr, SC.
