Merlin Maurice "Moe" Ruddle, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on April 11, 2025, in Owens Crossroads, Alabama. Born on March 2, 1944, in New Madrid County, Missouri, Moe was a man of great spirit and loving nature who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
Moe proudly served his country as a veteran of the US Army, where he received several awards for his commendable service. His dedication to his nation continued through his work with Missile Systems for the US Government, a career that demonstrated his commitment to excellence and his passion for serving others. Moe's academic achievements included earning two associate degrees, which furthered his professional and personal growth.
In his personal life, Moe was best known for his friendly demeanor and loving presence. He was a man who found joy in simple pleasures and shared that joy generously with others. His interests were diverse and reflected his spirited nature. Whether he was bowling a perfect game, reeling in a big catch while fishing, playing a strategic hand of pinochle, soaring the skies while flying, hitting the links for a round of golf, engaging in a thoughtful game of chess, or creating beautiful pencil artwork, Moe embraced each activity with enthusiasm and skill.
An avid sports fan, Moe's love for Alabama Football was well-known and infectious. He could often be found cheering on his favorite team, surrounded by family and friends who were drawn to his vibrant energy and warmth.
Moe's artistic talents were particularly remarkable, as he captured the world around him with precision and care in his pencil work. His art was not only a hobby but also a reflection of the beauty he saw in life and the love he had for his family and friends.
Moe is survived by his loving wife, Doris Ruddle; his son, Bryan Scott (Janie) Ruddle of New Hope; his daughter, Melissa (Nathan) Wilkens of Texas; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Charles Ruddle of New Hampshire. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Christine Ruddle, who instilled in him the values of kindness and generosity that he carried throughout his life.
Moe's legacy is one of love, friendship, and the pursuit of passions. His memory will be treasured by the many lives he touched with his friendly and spirited personality. As we bid farewell to Merlin Maurice "Moe" Ruddle, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of joy, creativity, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
