I have fond memories of Merritt. He was a friend and avid fisherman. He was the County Manager of Miami-Dade during some of the most trying times for that community. He was the County Manager during the 1980 riots and led the County staff through "decremental" budgeting. Truly the passing of a great Manager. He will be missed. Our condolences to Judy and the girls.

Merrett, Will never forget the amazing trips we had fishing in Alaska with you and our boys, ( your grandsons. ) You could catch a fish out of a mud puddle! LOL and the great times Cathy and I had with you crabbing in the Everglades.
Cathy always said with my Dad we would never go hungry, and she was right.
Wish we had more time but the times we had were great.
We will miss you.
Love Steve, Cathy and the boys.

Merrett was the consummate professional Manager. When I was an attorney for Dade County, a hotly contested contract bidding issue made its way up to Merrett. I recall he made a wise prudential decision as he always seemed to do which helped resolve the matter. Merrett was a great communicator, had a great sense of humor and was a man of integrity, honesty and transparency.
May he rest in peace and may his memory be for a blessing!

Merritt, appointed me as director of Department of Environmental Resources Management, commonly know as DERM. Hs supported me 100% concerning implementing a compressive environment protection program for Miami-Dade County, and enforcing it. He was an avid fisherman and an environmentalist. Miami-Dade is a better place to live because of him.

Dad - you were a man, my father, who lived a life of integrity, honesty and service to others. You are my hero and am so very proud of you. We share a lifetime of memories - fishing, camping, dinners, trips, long talks, reading Kahlil Gibran and Robert Service, and feel especially grateful
my sisters, Judy and I were able to spend so much time together the last few months of your life. I´m glad Lawrence was here to play and sing all your favorite songs, especially Johnny Cash. Dad, you had a wonderful smile and infectious laugh, and told the best jokes. Years ago, we read a poem together that truly reflects the life you lived.
Success
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social
condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;
This is to have succeeded.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dad, you had an amazing and full life, and made a difference in this world. I love you with all my heart and miss you, until we meet again. Laurey Boryalice

I met Mr. Steirheim when i was 12 years old when his daughter and I became friends. My mother said I´d better be on my best behavior and not make the County Administrator mad. I was scared to death lol. Over the years I know he has been a force in the community and a strong father figure and friend to his daughters. May his wife, daughters, grandchildren and extended family remember the good times and cherish their time they had together. Blessings, Robin

Many of you knew Merrett Stierheim as a public servant, the man you called in when the job seemed almost impossible but for us Merrett Stierheim Was our grandfather and our children´s great grandfather. A larger than life man with a kind heart and a warm smile.
As his grandchildren and great grandchildren we got to see a different more playful side than most, he had the spirit of a wise man with an energy that was young and made you want to join in and have fun. Whether it was just a simple conversation, playing cards, putting together a puzzle or his all-time favorite, fishing he could alway draw you in, make you feel like it was the best day. Every time we got together it was an adventure.
Grandpa, know you will be missed but not forgotten. Never forgotten.
We love you! Until we meet again.

Dad, we will always Love you. Thank you so much for being our father, our Superman. Wish we had more time.
But God saw you getting Tired and a cure was not to be, so he wrapped his arms around you and whispered come with me. With tearful eyes we watched you as you slipped away, although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay. A Golden heart stopped beating , hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.
With all my Love
Your lucky little Buddha Cathy
