Merrill Curry Obituary

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John J. & Grace F. Curry and his brother, Malcolm H. Curry.
He was proud of his time at the University of Virginia, the Darden School, Phi Psi fraternity and his 29 years of dedicated service to the Navy including command of Defense Depot, Ogden, Utah. He was a combat veteran of Vietnam. His many awards include the Legion of Merit, three Meritorious Service medals and the Combat Action ribbon. He was a golf enthusiast and a master at billiards.
He expressed sincere thanks to the many associates and friends who aided his success. He asked that they toast a memory.
Left to cherish his memories are his former wife and mother to their only child, Diette Curry of Surry, VA; his daughter, Kimberli Madson of Norfolk, VA with husband, James (Jim) of Norfolk, Virginia; his grandchildren, Jessica de Swart of Lithia, FL with husband Pieter, Jason Madson of Whitsett, NC, Ashley Hendricks of Virginia Beach, VA with husband Cory, Drew Madson of Norfolk, VA with wife Amanda, and Erika Madson of Norfolk, VA with fiancé Tony; and, his great grandchildren, Dash, Kennedy, James (JP), Mason, Olivia, Emma, Emmett and Lincoln.

I knew Merrill pretty well, played golf with him and worked with him at SPCC and NSC Norfolk then visited him (and again played Golf with him) at DD Ogden when I was on a trip to speak at the Naval Postgraduate School during my final tour. He was a friend, an outstanding Naval Officer, and he could actually hit a one iron. Fair winds and following seas my friend.
