He was born in Hartford City on July 8, 1934 to Don H. Nottingham and Mary Catherine "Kate" (Wright) Nottingham.
Merrill graduated from Hartford City High School in 1952 and served in the United States Naval Reserve.
He married Reda Belle (Rinker) on June 6, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hartford City. She passed away on January 21, 2021 and although Merrill will be missed deeply by his children, it brings great comfort knowing that Merrill and Reda Belle are together again.
Merrill was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Eagles, Moose and the Blackford County Coon Hunters Club. He had co-owned and operated Beer Co. in Hartford City and drove a school bus for Blackford County School System.
He loved outdoor activities with fishing and coon hunting being his favorite hobbies. He also enjoyed supporting the Blackford Bruins over the years.
Merrill and Reda Belle had lived in Byrdstown, TN after they retired for 18 years before moving back to Indiana to be closer to family.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Gary D. (wife, Maria E.) Nottingham of Lebanon, OH, Lois A. (husband, Robert M.) Jackson of Wichita, KS, Dr. Thomas "Tom" (wife, Julie L.) Nottingham of Indianapolis and Dr. Della Kay (husband, Mike R.) Simmons of Albert Lea, MN; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Max A. (wife, Susie) Nottingham of Aurora, CO; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Don H. and Mary Catherine "Kate" Nottingham, his wife Reda Belle Nottingham, his sisters, Mary Jo Winger and Maralyn Sue Nottingham.
A memorial service will be at 1 PM Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM Saturday, July 5, 2025 at the funeral home.
