Merrill L. Reed, 81, of Marysville, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Heritage Senior Living of Marysville. Born on March 11, 1944, in Milford Center, he was the son of the late Frank and Maxine Reed and a proud graduate of Fairbanks High School.

Merrill dedicated over 40 years of his life to Scott's, where he retired as the packaging department manager, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he not only participated in worship but also nurtured his faith.

Merrill was known for his warm spirit and the joy he brought to his family. As a doting grandpa, he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren: Nathaniel Calkins-Reed, Juels Calkins-Reed, Jacob Vanscoy, Devyn Reed, Bryleigh Reed, and Kaylee Clemans. His nine great-grandchildren also held a special place in his heart. He took great pride in caring for his grandson, Jake, which was one of his proudest accomplishments.

In addition to his family, Merrill enjoyed various hobbies that reflected his vibrant personality. He found joy in gardening, horse racing, and watching baseball, particularly cheering on the Cincinnati Reds. He was also an avid supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals.

Merrill is survived by his son, Kelly (Jody) Reed; his sisters, Sherrill Leopard and Candy Lynn (Steve) Kise; a brother, Mickey Max Reed; his godson, Jim O'Neal; and his cherished furbaby, Angel. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Ruthann "Cookie" (Smith) Reed, and she passed away on February 9, 2018; his daughter, Kendra Vanscoy; and his brother-in-law, Richard Wibley.

Services to celebrate Merrill's life will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday, January 22, 2026 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel 621 W. 5th St. Marysville, with Pastor Angie Storer officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. In honor of Merrill, guests are encouraged to wear red for his love of the Reds and the Buckeyes. Graveside services will be held at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.wilsonfuneralhomesinc.com
