Ronald Shortridge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ingram Funeral Home - Marysville on Mar. 13, 2026.
Ronald B. "Ron" Shortridge, 82, of Marysville, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, March 12, 2026, at Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.

One of six children, Ron was born in Pikeville, Kentucky, to the late Willie and Gladys (Elswick) Shortridge. A proud Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Alaska before being honorably discharged. A handy mechanic, he worked at their Worthington SOHIO family business before owning and operating his own landscaping company. In retirement, he enjoyed delivering flowers for Gruett's Flower shop in Marysville.

Ron was a simple, but genuine man, and he found joy in being helpful. He used his mechanical knowledge to fix things that other's considered junk, and he loved the kids in the neighborhood stopping by so he could fix their bikes or blow up their tires. His main hobby throughout the years was fishing, something that he enjoyed and found peace in, though his love for playing the lottery and drinking Pepsi came close. Devoted and dedicated, the only way Ron knew how to love people, was to love with his whole heart, and he was most proud of his daughters and his grandchildren – he loved them with everything he had.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Nancy M. Shortridge, whom he married March 9, 1984; beloved daughters Karen Shortridge of Lima, Tracey (Brian) Kessler of Cincinnati, and like-a-daughter Jenny Austin of Marysville; adored grandchildren Samantha Kessler, Alex Kessler, and bonus grandchildren Avery (AJ) Issler and Val Austin Jr.; brother Ray (Patsy) Shortridge of Virginia; special niece and nephew Brenda Davis and David Justice with whom Ron was incredibly close; along with several other nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

Along with his parents, Ron was also preceded in death by a bonus son-in-law Val Austin Sr.; and siblings Rubyleen "Sis" Hurlbutt, Nell Justice, Roy Shortridge and Betty Parker.

Visitation will be 11am-1 pm Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Ingram & Snyder Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville, where funeral services to celebrate Ron's life will begin promptly at 1 pm with family friend, LaRue Austin officiating. The Union County Honor Guard will begin services providing full military honors.

Ingram & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve Ron's family, and condolences may be expressed to them at www.IngramFuneralService.com.
