Ferrell Shortridge

Ferrell Shortridge, age 72, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (January 27, 2026) at his home. Born July 18, 1953 in Rowe, Virginia, he was a son of the late Willie and Bertha Alice Street Shortridge. He had spent most of his life in the Rowe community, moving to Russell County thirteen years ago. A dedicated Christian, he was a member of the Swords Creek Block Church. He had been employed as a coal miner for Island Creek Coal Company and VP3 and he was a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed gardening, riding four wheelers, turkey hunting with his grandson; yet nothing brought him greater joy and peace than going to the mountains to pray and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Clarence Shortridge, Clyde Shortridge, C.W. Shortridge, Guye Shortridge, Verlin Shortridge and Billie Shortridge; four sisters, Hassie Street, Gladys Street, Kester Ratliff and Lillian Cantrell.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-six years, Sandra Hess Shortridge of the home; daughter, Mindy Jenks of Grundy, Virginia; two grandchildren, Titus Ashby and Isabella Ashby; four sisters, Pauline Wilson, Wanda Deel, Wilma Vandyke and Vivian Gross; several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Perkins officiating. Funeral honors will be conducted by the UMWA Sub-28 Chaplain Corp. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia.

Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends after 6 PM Thursday at Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM.
