Merrill Rodney Turrell

Merrill Rodney Turrell, aged 82, of Midland, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Pinecrest Farms in Midland. Born on December 1, 1942, in Midland, he was the cherished son of the late Richard and Beulah (Unger) Turrell. Merrill's early years were spent in Midland until his family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, for a decade. It was there that he attended North High School before returning to his roots in Midland with his family.
Merrill's professional life was dedicated to his craft as a painter, a vocation he held dear throughout his entire career. Friends and colleagues remember Merrill as a man who took pride in his work, always ensuring that each stroke of the brush was as perfect as the last.
A man of many passions, Merrill found joy in the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter, reveling in the quietude and challenge of the sport. His love for travel took him to many different places and camping was another of Merrill's favorite activities.
Family was the cornerstone of Merrill's life. He is lovingly remembered by his two children, Shelley (Don) Gilmore and Rodney (Michelle) Turrell; his adored grandchildren, Don and Diedra; and a treasured great-grandchild. Merrill's legacy is also carried on by his siblings, Donald (Dorothy) Turrell, Jacqueline (Herman) Lewitz, Joyce Conklin, Lenore Presley, MayBelle O'Dell, and Kathy Harris. Merrill was preceded in passing by his parents and his brothers, Richard, Wayne, David, and Carson.
A brief service to honor the life and memory of Merrill Rodney Turrell will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Homer Township Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
