Micale Frederick J Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schepp Family Funeral Homes, Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel on Feb. 10, 2026.
Frederick John Micale, 78 of Fayetteville, New York passed away on February 9, 2026. He was surrounded by his loving children at the time of his passing. He is survived by his children Jonathan (Patsy), Gregory (Lauren), Emily (Shaun), his three grandchildren, Ryan, Mary Elizabeth, and Genevieve, and his sister Janice (Bill), and his niece Courtney. Fred confronted death the same way he approached life: with remarkable courage and never shying away from the good fight.

Born in Syracuse, New York to the late Frank J. Micale and Genevieve Zogby on October 17, 1947, Fred attended Catholic high school at St. John the Baptist in Syracuse, New York and graduated from Assumption College in Worchester, Massachusetts in 1969. Fred was the older of two children, his sister Janice being his lifelong source of advice and trusted confidant. Following graduation from college, Fred pursued his dream of following his father into law practice by enrolling at Syracuse University College of Law in 1970. Fred's mother Genevieve made sure Fred remained grounded and focused as he completed his academic studies. At Syracuse University College of Law, Fred actively participated in Moot Court activities, a skill he would carry with him into law practice with his father when he passed the New York Bar Exam in 1972.

Fred's two great passions in life after his children and grandchildren were his practice of law and the game of golf. Fred's philosophy in golf was always to play every shot like a new hole and every hole like a new game, a philosophy he lived in his personal life as he confronted and overcame his own challenges. Fred went on to practice law for over 50 years and define his family's legacy of law practice in Central New York. His last name "Micale," became synonymous with attorney in Syracuse, largely due to his relentless commitment to the legal profession. Fred would ultimately lead both large and small firms, educate future lawyers teaching at Syracuse University College of Law, and mentor two of his own children into the practice of law. His third child pursued his other great passion by becoming a PGA golf professional. Whenever Fred met and spoke to anyone, his first topic of conversation was how proud he was of his children. They were the love of his life.

Outside of practicing law, Fred played golf with the Syracuse Bandits and was a regular congregant at Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville, New York. Fred's Catholic Faith was more than his religion. It was the basis of personal values given to him by his parents that guided him as he made some of the most consequential decisions during his life.

Family and friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Saturday February 14, 2026, at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel 7191 E. Genesee St, Fayetteville, NY 13066. A Catholic service will be celebrated at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
