Michael Abbott Obituary

Michael W. Abbott

Cornish, NH - Michael William Abbott passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in White River Jct., after a sudden illness. Michael was born in Windsor, VT on November 19, 1951, to William and Patricia (Smith) Abbott. He received his schooling at Windsor High School.

Michael joined the United States Army in 1970 and was honorably discharged in 1976. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in Germany, Okinawa, and Ft. Hood, Texas. After being discharged, he joined the Army National Guard in Windsor VT in 1976 and then joined the NH National Guard 744th Transportation Company in Claremont NH from 1977-1983.

Michael married Mary White in October 1970, they later divorced and remained friends. Together they shared three children, Brandy, Shawn, and Heather.

Michael had several jobs throughout the years. In 1998, he moved to St. Mary's, GA and later to Hillard, FL where he worked as a certified diver for a boating company in Florida. Later, he worked for and retired from Kaman Aerospace, Jacksonville, FL.

In 2017, he returned to his hometown of Windsor, VT. A couple of years later, he moved to Cornish, NH with his son & daughter-in-law, Shawn & Ashley.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, William & Patricia Abbott; a grandson, Boston Lucas Gorecki; and a sister, Janice Gugino.

He is survived by his daughters, Brandy Jean (William) Rawlings of Sunapee, NH, Heather (Chris) Gorecki of Claremont, NH and a son, Shawn (Ashley) Abbott of Cornish, NH, as well as his grandchildren, Jonathan Keeler, Noah Abbott, Hunter Abbott and Kevin Abbott, Serenity Gorecki, Christopher Gorecki, Jailyn Gorecki, and Isabelle Gorecki and his great grandchildren, Jon Michael, Marcus, Kylie, Clayton, Emily and Hazel. Michael is also survived by his sisters, Debra (William) Kelly of Rutland, VT, Donna (Andrew) Vinopal and Kathleen (Patrick) O'Neill, all of Windsor, VT and his aunt, Nancy Streeter of Montpelier, VT and several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Michael dearly loved each member of his family.

Michael's passions were hunting, fishing, golfing and cooking but most important to Michael was his family and friends and spending time with them. He also loved spending time with his pups, Ginger, Gypsy, and Tazer.

Michael will be fondly remembered for his Peanut Butter Fudge and Apple Pie Moonshine which he loved to make for his family and friends.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of NH, or in "Paying it Forward" with a kindness.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
