Michael (Mike) Joseph Adkins, (76) of Tavares, FL, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Mike was born in Huntington, West Virginia but grew up in Logan, West Virginia where he was raised by his Aunt Fern and Uncle Vic, who he loved dearly. Mike and his family moved to Orlando in 1970.
Mike was a retired Law Enforcement Officer. He served with the Orlando Police Department & the Altamonte Police Department. He served as Lieutenant with Orange County Corrections Department for 21 years, before retiring in 2004.
Mike was an old soul. He had a passion for the old music of the 60's and 70's as well as traditional Christian music. He also enjoyed Western/Cowboy movies. Mike loved the Lord and attended the Calvary Tabernacle Church while in Orlando.
Mike loved boating and fishing so much that he moved to Tavares in 2017 to live life on the water. He enjoyed exploring the Harris chain of lakes with family and friends on his pontoon boat. His best friend was his dog, Echo. He made friends with other dog owners while going to the dog park daily.
He will be missed and is survived by his wife Deborah Adkins of Tavares, his sister Margaret Cox of Ohio, and his children Kenneth "Vic" (Lisa) Adkins of Mount Dora, Jeff (Marian) Adkins of Orlando, Dustin (Carrieann) Adkins of Brooksville, Florida, and his grandchildren Lianne Adkins, Brian Adkins, Stephanie (Adkins) Kusev, Eric Adkins, Sydney Adkins, and Evan Adkins. He is preceded in death by his first wife of many years, Virginia (Jenny) Adkins (2019).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 6:30PM in the Steverson, Hamlin and Hilbish Chapel located at 226 E. Burleigh Blvd, Tavares, FL 32778, with Pastor Mark Acevedo officiating.
