Michael Alperin

Michael Earl Alperin, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Attleboro, MA, on November 4, 2025. Born in Boston on June 24, 1947, and raised in Mattapan, he was the beloved son of the late Aba and Hilda (Zimmerman) Alperin and the brother of the late Adele (Alperin) Donovan.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of two years, Mary (Powers) Alperin; his daughter Julie (Alperin) Andrews and her husband Matthew; and Ronda (Small) Cohen, mother of Julie and of Michael's late son, David Scott Alperin, who passed away in 1978 at the age of two from the rare disease Niemann–Pick. He is also survived by many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

After completing high school and a couple of semesters of college, Michael was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968. He proudly served his country for two years, including deployments in Korea, Cambodia, and Laos. Following his honorable discharge, Michael worked in various fields, including upholstery, sales, and professional videography and editing. He wore many hats throughout his life and possessed a remarkable breadth of knowledge.

Michael had many interests, including the show M*A*S*H (where he never lost at trivia), photography, archery, hunting, gardening, music, cooking, travel, cruising, and fishing-his greatest passion.

For ten years, he welcomed fellow fishing enthusiasts into his boat through his television show Sportfishing the Northeast. His adventures took him around the globe-from the Arctic Circle to Alaska, Mexico, Patagonia, and countless places in between-in pursuit of the perfect catch. A Captain, he was a member of the Game Fish Association and the former World Fishing Center in Florida, and he also served as a U.S. Merchant Marine.

Michael's personality was larger than life, and he had a wicked sense of humor that could make anyone blush. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him and loved him.
