Dr. Michael J. Anthony VMD, a loving and compassionate father, veterinarian, son, brother, and partner, passed away on December 10, 2024, at the age of 45. He was born in 1978 to Dr. Robert Anthony and the late Dr. Bonnie Anthony (née Belasco) and raised in Bethesda, MD. Michael's life was a testament to his dedication to his family, his passion for veterinary medicine, and his ability to find humor in almost anything.
Michael's greatest pride was his two sons whom he raised with their mother, Jessica Anthony. He instilled in them the values of mindfulness, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge. Together they shared countless memories that will be treasured forever.
Michael's academic journey was marked by excellence. He graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College with a degree in psychology, which laid the foundation for his empathetic approach to both animals and humans. He attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, where he graduated with honors, specializing in the care of small animals.
Michael was the owner of Haddon Vet in Haddon Heights, where he treated not only the family pet but also the worry in their human companions. His colleagues and clients respected him for his expertise, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of animals.
Beyond his professional life, Michael was an avid runner, and he found peace and solace in the rhythm of his footsteps on the open road. A true music enthusiast, he found joy in everything from classical works to the hip-hop his sons introduced him to. His love for Pokemon Go was well-known-he could often be found catching them all with his two sons.
In addition to his father, his two sons, and their mother, Michael is survived by his siblings, Patricia Gershefski, Michelle Anthony (Scott Hunter), Scott Anthony (Joanne), and Peter Anthony (David Heilman); his significant other, Kyle Bartsch, with whom he loved to travel and garden; many nieces and nephews; and his four-legged family members, Harper, Hermes, and Bort.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on January 3, 2024 from 9:30-11:30 AM at the Bradley Funeral Home, Rt.73 and Evesham Rd., Marlton, NJ. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Anthony Memorial Fund, to enhance a local dog park and provide emergency assistance to pets in need at P.O. Box 364, Marlton, NJ 08053.

Several of my pets were patients of Dr Anthony's for years, Emmy, Mishka, Nash, and Patrick. I started taking them to Clayton vet then followed him to his practice when he opened it.
His love, patience and alternative methods helped my pets. He would take time to talk when i had questions, offered sincere condolences when my beloved Emmy passed.
He was a gentle, compassionate man. It grieved me so much to hear the news of his death and how. I hope some justice will be found to provide some consolation to his family.
Animal patients have lost a tender loving Dr .
I offer condolences to his sons, family and extended family as his practice

Dr Anthony was the absolute best vet we have ever experienced because he radiated his love, care, and compassion for his clients and their pets. His office staff and technicians are a reflection of him and his values. Bill, myself, and "Leo" our Westie had the good fortune to experience and share in this beautiful, loving environment. We will miss him and always remember him. Sadly, "Leo" had to leave us shortly after on December 20th and we chose to do it at the office because of the spirit he and his staff create and shared with us over the years. Peace.

Thank you Dr. Anthony for taking such wonderful care of our fur babies, London and Riley. London first met you when she was 13 and we switched from a different vet to Haddon Vet. You and your team took wonderful care of her in her last year of life and eased the concerns and worry of a family watching their senior dog's declining health. It was a difficult decision to switch practices at her age, but we couldn't have chosen a better place. We still remember the sympathy card sent from you and the rest of staff at Haddon Vet when she crossed the rainbow bridge. Then came Riley and for the past 3 years she has been well taken care of. Dr. Anthony was an amazing, caring person and will be greatly missed.

I met Michael when I interviewed him, 21 years ago. He worked for us for several years; it was his first job after veterinary school. Those were some of the worst years of my personal life; Michael was one of the people who kept me going. He would call randomly just to see how I was doing, on his time off. His energy and kindness was exceptional. His clients and patients have lost a wonderful human being, and so has his family. My heart is broken.

Dr. Anthony and his staff at Haddon Vet have been there for us through thick and thin. Always kind, caring, compassionate, and patient. To say Dr. Anthony was an amazing veterinarian would be an understatement. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers for strength and comfort to his family, friends, and colleagues for his tragic loss. Dr. Anthony is truly missed. Harrison sends his love and says, "Thank you for taking such good care of me." And that he still has the blue coat that he was wearing when he and Dr. Anthony had matching coats on.
Love to all who knew Dr. Michael Anthony.

I just found out about Dr. Micheal´s passing. I am devastated. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at Haddon Vet.

He was a kind, caring and dedicated Veterinarian. I could see that for him it wasn´t just a job, but a calling. He treated my beloved Katrina with acupuncture. His gentle demeanor kept her calm. I was looking forward to having him care for my recent rescue kitten Cinnamon.

Dr. Michael will truly be missed by his furry patients and their owners.

I always remember Michael being such a nice guy! I never heard him complain or speak badly about anything or anyone. We had such a good vet school class because of people like him ... he is missed!! We are in shock and devastated. I hope his legacy and fond memories will help his family, especially his children, to cope and continue living their lives influenced by his goodness. My condolences.

I'm heartbroken,... Dr. Anthony was such a kind and caring soul. He helped my rescue kitties on numerous occasions. Being a Veterinarian was not just a "job or business" to him, it was truly his passion. Every time I went to see Dr. Anthony, I gave him a big hug, I told him from day one that "I'm a hugger" and he said, "me too". Dr. Anthony's sweet, calm and patient demeanor helped even the most fearful furry friends. What a tremendous loss of a wonderful human being. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Dr. Anthony you will never be forgotten, never...

Dr Anthony has been a part of my "family" for almost 8 years. We saw him every month for chiropractic adjustments for my dog so we saw each other a lot. I am devastated that something like this can happen to such a sweet man. I pray for his family and staff, and I know he is in heaven. I pray for all the people that relied on him for great vet care for their pets, and for the pets that loved him. My dog typically doesnt like vets, but she LOVED Dr Anthony. He always wanted to hear all about all her adventures and what new tricks she learned. We will feel your loss for a long time.

We are just too heartbroken to even write anything... 3 weeks of a cruel harsh reality, that is hard to accept. Dr Anthony, you are one of a kind, and it´s absolutely unacceptable that you should have been a victim to such a crime. Rest in peace Happy and Melody are in your safe hands in heaven

I met Dr Anthony when he started working at a vet clinic in Clayton and our regular vet was not available and so we had our appointment with Dr Anthony. From that day on, I knew he was the one of a kind veterinarian I had been looking for since moving to South Jersey from North Jersey.

Over the last 10 years that Dr Anthony took care of my dogs, we often talked about our common interest in alternative and Chinese medicine. He also always asked about how my dogs were doing in their various dog sports competitions. He always had a smile on his face when he'd walk into the exam room. He made the phone call with all lab test results, which I don't know if any other veterinarian still does that. As has been said many times by so many people he was the kindest, gentlest, most caring, veterinarian, and individual that I have ever met. I will never forget him and the way he cared for my dogs.

My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and his amazing staff.

Dr Anthony was recommended to me by my Veterinarian of over 30 years that retired. I knew it was fate, when I saw his name was Michael Anthony; my fathers name was Michael Anthony . We have been going to Dr Anthony for over 6 years.
My pack is not normal. I foster for a rescue, and I adopted into the family all the "un adoptable" dogs. One is Snazzy, born with a grade five heart murmur. Snazzy was being treated at U of Penn in the cardiology dept. They said she had a year at mist. Because of Dr. Anthony´s holistic approach, Snazzy just celebrated her 8th birthday.
Dr. Anthony was excellent with my pack of 10, and they all loved him. He was kind and passionate about his fur clients and his human clients.
He is sadly missed by many. The world is different without Dr Anthony and my family´s world will never be the same.

We've known Dr. Anthony for many many years as we used to travel from Moorestown down to Egg Harbor Twp/Margate to see an integrative vet and Dr. Anthony would sometimes fill in for Griffin's regular vet. After Griff passed, we needed to find a vet for our new westie, Quincy, and this is when I learned about Haddon Vet. Fairly early on, Dr. Anthony recognized that Quincy had special needs and referred us to a nearby specialty vet. In short time that he did see Quinn as his patient, he always got down on the floor to interact with him even kissing him on his head once which just melted my heart. Dr. Anthony's love for animals was clearly evident and the compassion and tenderness that exuded from him left a huge imprint on my heart then and now. Though Quincy was no longer his patient, he and his staff helped facilitate a special need we had in coordination with the vet specialist just hours before his light was extinguished. I will always remember him with great affection not only as a gifted veterinarian who understood the value of an integrative approach to veterinary care but also as someone who put the emotional needs of his patients and their people first which was so important. The world lost this very special bright light far too soon. My heart hurts deeply for what has happened but memories of him will always shine on in my heart and so many others. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends, staff and all the patients/families who have been touched by this senseless loss.

Dr. Antony was a kind and compassionate vet. He helped two of my fur babies cross over the Rainbow Bridge while comforting me through the whole process. He treated our pets as he would his own. His passing has left a huge hole in all our hearts. Sometimes in life you meet a person that reminds you that there are still wonderful and caring people in this world, Dr. Anthony was one of those people.

It took us 12 years to find a Dr. as special as our pitbull, Sadie. Dr. Anthony had the kindest eyes, and upon meeting him, we were positive he was the best vet Sadie would ever have. He had such knowledge AND compassion. No one will ever replace him. Our condolences extend not only to his loved ones, but to his dear office family. With love and prayers, Amy, Mike and Sadie Amato.

Dr. Anthony holds a special place in my heart. He took care of my beloved pet GeneKelly who had a very unique personality. If it wasn´t for Dr. Anthony and his staff, Gene would not have lived a great life. Dr Anthony was caring, compassionate person and veterinarian. He has left an undeniable legacy. We will miss you!

Dr.Anthony was the first vet who actually listened to me about my dogs. He took care of them with such compassion and kindness . My older dog has allergies and anxiety, but she willingly went into Dr. Anthony´s arms. This amount of compassion for animals is not found often. I could just tell that he loved his profession with a passion. The world has lost a kind soul. My condolences to his family and friends, and to all the animals who have lost their favorite doctor. Rest In Peace Dr. Anthony. We miss you.

Wanted to share this: I would always bring sweets to the office when I came for appts. At a recent pet appt for my little IPod (now in heaven), dr Anthony looked at me and said, "you´re gonna make us all fat & sassy !" It was just so cute n funny how he said that. Can´t stop thinking about it.........

I will never forget my first memory working with Michael. He was a relief vet at a practice in egg harbor township I was a tech at. On his first shift he was dressed so nice, pink shirt, blue tie, khakis. We loved him immediately. I was assisting him with a cat who had a urinary blockage and as soon as he lifted the cat´s tail, he got anal gland material all over his face! He immediately started cracking up, was so light hearted. We continued to work together over the next few years. I will never forget our outings to Atlantic City, to Philly. The books he recommended and loaned to me, the extensive horror movie talks we had with each other, him doing absolutely anything for my pets and for me. Him helping me name the dog who was the love of my life, Tofutti. I am forever grateful for his friendship. He was not only a fantastic veterinarian, but a fantastic person and a light in this world. I give my condolences to his family, his friends, clients. He is so deeply missed and so very loved.

Pictured is Michael with my cat, Carl who he also helped me name!
