Jack Drury Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bradley Funeral Home - Marlton on Feb. 13, 2026.
John "Jack" F. Drury, 92, of Marlton, New Jersey, formerly of Westfield and Manasquan, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees, New Jersey. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Jack lived a life defined by devotion to family, education, community, and a quiet, enduring warmth.

Jack attended Barringer High School, graduating with the class of 1952. His love of learning led him to William Paterson University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1957. A talented athlete and dedicated student, Jack made his mark on the basketball court, becoming the school's all-time leading scorer. Though proud of his accomplishments, he often spoke just as fondly of teamwork and believed that helping others succeed was as important as personal achievement. He later earned a master's degree from Seton Hall University, reflecting his lifelong commitment to education.

In 1957, Jack began a fulfilling career in education as an elementary school teacher in Newark, where he inspired young students until 1965. His love of basketball continued as he coached at South Side High School, leading the team to a state championship in 1965. A team still considered by many to be one of the greatest in New Jersey high school basketball history. As a coach, Jack emphasized discipline, respect, and the importance of playing for the good of the team. Jack knew the value of an assist.

From 1965 to 1989, Jack served the students at Nutley High School as a guidance counselor and vice principal. His steady presence, thoughtful guidance, and genuine care left a lasting impact on countless students. He continued his vocation from 1989 to 2007 at Bishop AHR High School in Edison as a guidance counselor. Those who worked with Jack knew him as a man of integrity who understood that success, in school and in life, is built through cooperation, generosity, and shared effort.

Beyond his professional life, Jack was a man of deep roots and varied interests. He took great pride in his Irish heritage and remained actively involved in cultural traditions. His commitment to service began early when he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and continued as a founding member of the Newark Drum and Bugle Corps. An avid tennis player, Jack enjoyed the friendships and camaraderie found on the court.

Jack's legacy lives on through his beloved wife of 62 years, Doris Drury; his sons, Brian, Michael (Diane), and Daniel (Christy); and his cherished grandchildren, Brendan, Aidan, Maddy, and Charlie, who will forever remember his kindness, guidance, and love.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Holy Eucharist Church, 344 Kresson Rd, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am, at the church. Burial will be private for the family on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Fairview Cemetery.
