Michael Joe Arnold, age 70, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, in Wyoming, Michigan after a brief battle with lung cancer.
Michael, the youngest of three boys, was born to Clair and Helen Arnold on July 11, 1955 in Midland, MI. As you can imagine, growing up on the family farm with 3 young boys, there was never a lack of roughhousing. The phrase “Wait until your father gets home!” was commonly heard around the house. As the youngest, he shared a special bond with his mother. It was likely from her that he developed his knack for cooking, something he enjoyed sharing with those he loved. For those of you who were lucky enough to try his venison sausage, you should know his sons are desperately trying to master his recipe!
More than anything, Michael loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. They were his biggest joy in life, and he left many lasting qualities and values instilled in them. While he wasn’t typically an outwardly emotional man, you could see the love and pride he felt for each and every one of them. Spending quality time hunting with family and hanging out at the property in Gordonville, MI was a favorite, as he was an avid outdoorsman. Many core memories were made there, and will be shared, cherished, and laughed about for years to come.
Michael dedicated 30 years of his career to the Sheet Metal Workers Union, proudly serving as a member of Local 7. He began his career “knocking tin”, mastered HVAC service, and ended his career as company superintendent. His strong work ethic and skilled craftsmanship defined his professional life. He retired in his early 50’s, choosing to devote his time and energy to what mattered most to him — his children and grandchildren.
Michael was a true handyman and fixer of all things, so most days you could find him tinkering around in his barn. He was the trusted problem solver his family and friends relied on when something needed to be looked at. Whether it was a small repair or a major home project, he was always willing to give a helping hand and put his skills to work. His willingness to help others was simply part of who he was.
A faithful member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Midland, Michigan, Michael attended regularly and enjoyed attending the men’s bible group.
Michael will be deeply missed by his sons, Chad (Amy) Arnold and Nicholas (Laura) Arnold; his brother, Dennis (Janet) Arnold; sister-in-law, Jaclyn Arnold; his five cherished grandchildren, Brayden, Connor, Emersyn, Jackson and Granger Arnold; and many other beloved family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Clair Arnold; his mother, Helen Arnold; and his brother, David Arnold.
Michael’s legacy lives on in the family he loved deeply and the many lives he touched along the way. To honor his wishes, a funeral service will not be held.
