Michael Asselta

Michael Peter Asselta, age 88, of Sandy Hook, Conn., formerly of Garden City Park, N.Y., died on May 15, 2023.
Beloved husband of Rosemary (nee Backus) for 59 years, and loving father of Gina and her husband Christopher Spahn of Ridgefield, Conn. and Ann Marie and her husband Robert Williamson of Gilbert, Ariz. Cherished "Poppy" of Emily, Elizabeth, Timothy, and Margaret Spahn, and Anna, Julia, and Grace Williamson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine M. (nee Giarracco) and Joseph J. Asselta, and his brother, Joseph J. Asselta, Jr.
Michael's greatest joy in life was his family. He will be deeply missed by his family and dear friends. His memory will live on in the hearts and lives he has touched with his kindness and love.
Visitation at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Conn. on Sunday, May 21, from 2 to 5 pm.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, Conn. on Monday, May 22, at 10:30 am.
Interment will follow at Saint Rose of Lima Parish Cemetery, 20 Cherry Street, Sandy Hook, Conn.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Michael's memory may be made to Saint Rose of Lima Church or Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.
