Michael Wayne Babb, age 77, of Cynthiana, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He was born in
Charleston, West Virginia, on September 8, 1948, to the late John and Madge Knapp Babb.
Mike is survived by his best friend, Amanda Morris; his children, Kristina Babb, Michael (Laurie) Wayne Babb II, Michelle Fraze, Jacob Brewer, Natalie Grace Morris, and Emma Faith Morris; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Jones (Bryan McKenney), Jaime (Wes) Speer, Sylvia Johnson, Jaira Sandusky, Elijah Sandusky, Corrine (Trey) Collett, Camilla Babb, Sari Babb, and four great-grandchildren; family including Zona Kay Babb; and his favorite little sister and brother-in-law, Mildred "Mebi" and Rick Haddox.
Very early in life, Mike, N4PF, found a passion for amateur (HAM) radio. He became an avid operator at the age of twelve and held an Amateur Extra Class license for more than 65 years. He was a founding member of the Harrison County Amateur Radio Club and took great pride in his Morse code fluency. Mike found immense joy in daily communications with fellow Hams around the world and earned many accolades reflecting his decades of dedication to the hobby.
Much of Mike's professional career was also spent in radio as on-air personality "Mike Wayne," beginning at WRDS in
Charleston, West Virginia, and continuing at WPAR in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and WINN Radio in Louisville, Kentucky. He later transitioned into television, working as an engineer for Channel 32 in Louisville for many years before finishing his career at CMC/CLA (CMWA) as a Network Engineer, where he managed the IT department and infrastructure.
After retiring in 2003, Mike embraced his entrepreneurial vision and founded Network Engineering, Inc. (The Computer Repair Place), providing residential and commercial computer sales and service, as well as network design, installation, and maintenance. He operated offices and retail locations in both Cynthiana and Georgetown and continued serving his clients until his passing.
Throughout his life, Mike held a deep passion for serving others. He quietly supported numerous civic and nonprofit organizations, as well as individuals he encountered who were in need. He spent many years as a Rotary Club member, eventually serving as President of the Cynthiana Rotary Club and later as Assistant Governor for District 6740. The Rotary Club's Four-Way Test was something Mike strongly believed in and often referenced: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Above all else, Mike knew and loved God. He held that sacred relationship close to his heart, and while he was the first to acknowledge his own imperfections, he was equally quick to proclaim God's goodness and share his faith with others.
Mike was a strong and steady presence in the lives of those he loved, and he will be deeply missed. He was, and always will be, so very loved.
A service will be held at Ware Funeral Home on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 2:00 P.M., with visitation held prior to the service from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Battle Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be as follows: Gary Adams, Ricky Hash, Jacob Brewer, Bryan McKenney, Charles Carson, Elizabeth Jones.
As a polio survivor, efforts to eradicate the crippling and often deadly disease were very close to Mike's heart and one he supported financially for many years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in his memory to Rotary International's Polio Plus Fund, a mission dedicated to providing life-saving vaccines around the world.
