MOUNT GILEAD - Michael "Mike" Anthony Baer, age 58 of Mount Gilead, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Mike was born on March 14, 1966, to Robert H. and Nancy C. (Montavon) Baer in Steubenville, Ohio. He graduated from Hayes High School in Delaware in 1984. He started working for UPS when he was 18 and has continued to do so for the last 39 years. On November 4, 1989, Mike married the love of his life, Tereza "Trez" (Hurtado), to whom he has shared almost 35 years full of love.
Mike was a silly guy. He was also a man of deep faith. He was the kind of guy that you looked at, and knew he was a special, kind-hearted guy. He was loyal, honest, goofy, and quick-witted. Trez referenced his witty comments and tropes as "Mike-ism's." There's even a notebook full of some of the goofiest and off-the-wall things he's said.
He loved hunting with his dad. If he was outside, he was happy. Walking the trail or climbing the tower at Ariel Foundation Park, canoeing, camping (sometimes without a tent), or just being outside anywhere, were when he was happiest.
Mike enjoyed his work at UPS. He had always appreciated the camaraderie with the UPS group of Marion and getting to meet so many different people on his routes. He has made so many friends, had so many different conversations, and laughed with so many strangers throughout his 39 years of delivering to Southern and Northern Morrow County. Those that knew him at UPS called him "Big Mike Baer."
Left to cherish Mike's memory are his wife, Trez Baer; children: Caitlin Rose Baer, Anthony Robert Baer, and Mia Magdalena Michelle Baer; mother, Nancy Bear; sister, Gail (Mark) A. Baer; and numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Baer; and sisters: Kim S. Baer and Tina M. Baer.
Mike's family will greet family and friends on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 11 - 1 PM at Snyder Funeral Homes, Mount Gilead Chapel, 67 N Main Street, 43338. A funeral ceremony will take place at 1 PM immediately following calling hours. Services will be officiated by Pastor Art Wooddall. The family asks that, in Mike's honor, you help your neighbor, talk and laugh with a stranger, and be good to others.
