Michael Baker Obituary

Visit the Christensen Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Seymour website to view the full obituary.

Michael "Mike" Dean Baker, age 79, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed from this life to Glory on July 21, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family, a testament to the love he cultivated during his lifetime. For over 50 years, Mike dedicated his professional life to the insurance business, where he served as a broker, steadfastly working to be a blessing to his clients. His accolades in the industry were eclipsed only by the impressions he left in the hearts of those he encountered.

Mike was a proud graduate of Scottsburg High School, earning his diploma in 1964. His thirst for knowledge led him to Sullivan College in Louisville, Kentucky, where he loved to play basketball. This passion for the game extended beyond his youth, as he later became the former basketball coach for the Seymour Christian Academy, nurturing not only skills but character in his players.

For over 59 years, Mike was a faithful member of The Tabernacle at Sandy Creek, embodying the spirit of service as a past Sunday School Superintendent, usher, choir member, and dedicated bus driver. Most recently, he offered his expertise as a member of the finance committee for the building of the new church, continually investing in the community and its future.

Characterized by a fun-loving, outgoing personality, Mike's presence was a ray of sunshine. He was a master of lighthearted banter and a true jokester, never missing an opportunity to share a laugh. His ability to connect with people was unmatched; he loved humanity deeply, treating everyone he met as a friend. Whether he was fixing something for a neighbor or sharing a conversation with someone new, Mike gave of himself generously.

His interests painted the vivid tapestry of his life—camping under the stars, nurturing a thriving garden filled with vegetables and flowers, and making cherished memories with his family. He shared his home and heart with his beloved dogs, all of whom knew the touch of his gentle hand and the depths of his affection.

Mike adored his family fiercely. He is survived by his beloved wife, Crystal Ross Baker of Seymour, Indiana—a union that blossomed over 58 beautiful years. Their bond was a testament to love and partnership. He is also survived by their daughter, Cristy Null, and her husband Samuel of Seymour, along with sons, Andy Baker and his wife Beth and Wes Baker and his wife Sherry, both of Seymour. Mike cherished his siblings, including brother Lanny Baker and his wife Wanda of Scottsburg, and sister-in-law Sue Baker of Crothersville. His love for his family extended to his nine grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy: Jordan Hodge and his wife Jessica, Samantha Remington and her husband Ethan, Macie Beaver and her husband Cole, Spencer Null and his wife Juleimy, Kelsey Baker, Dylan Baker and his fiancée Samantha Margason, and Luke Baker. He was also the proud grandfather to three great-grandchildren, Ruby Remington, Brielle Null, and Oliver Beaver. A special cousin, Margaret Bowen and her husband Paul of Henryville, Indiana, also mourns his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Joyce Edmonson Baker and two brothers, Danny Baker and Joe Baker,

Mike leaves behind the memory of devotion and faith that spanned a lifetime. His love for the Lord Jesus radiated through his actions, and he consistently sought opportunities to share the Gospel, serving as a witness to his unwavering faith. Mike was a staunch supporter of Christian education, including Sandy Creek Christian Academy and Indiana Bible College. He understood the transformative power of faith and education, working tirelessly to sow seeds of hope and belief into the lives of others. He was a witness everywhere he went and truly believed the best in people.

The Apostle Paul said in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

As we gather to remember Mike, we are invited to reflect on a life well-lived—a life defined by love, laughter, and service. Family and friends may pay their respects during a visitation on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service commencing at 1:00 PM at The Tabernacle at Sandy Creek, located at 5707 North Sandy Creek Drive in Seymour, Indiana. Pastor Larry Arrowood, Pastor Elect Aaron Arrowood and Reverend Dennis Croucher will officiate. He will be laid to rest a Cana Cemetery in Crothersville, Indiana.

The family requests that memorials be directed to The Tabernacle at Sandy Creek building fund in his honor.

Friends are invited to leave condolence messages for the family at www.christensenfamilyfuneral.com.

Daniel and Betsy have been entrusted with the arrangements.
