Michael King Barnes

Michael King Barnes, age 69, died Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at his home in Harrison Township surrounded by his loving family. Michael was born December 24, 1948 in Detroit to the late Edward Barnes and the late Jacqueline (nee: King) Barnes. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Michael for his service to our country during the Vietnam War. As a sailor in the United States Navy, Michael served with pride and honor in answering the call of his country, with a willingness to stand in harm's way for the cause of freedom and the extension of the liberties we enjoy because he was there. We honor Michael's bravery and patriotism, and extend our posthumous gratitude for his wearing the uniform with pride. Michael was part owner of Ernst Hotel and Meat Supply at Detroit's Eastern Market. When Michael wasn't busy working he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Michael especially enjoyed woodworking and sailing in his free time. Michael's most memorable sailing trip was the race from Port Huron to Mackinac. Michael was known to be the life of the party. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends on the BBQ any chance he could get. Michael was very social and will be missed dearly by all of his family and friends. Michael was the beloved husband of Georgianne. Loving father of Whitney (Rob) Starrs. Dear brother of Edward (Kathleen) Barnes and the late Dennis Barnes. Beloved stepfather of Danielle Ryan. Loving grandfather of Natalie and Sloane Starrs, Chrysta, Cameron, Jacob and Miabella. Former husband of Pamela Rossi, mother of Whitney Starrs. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in Warren, Michigan.
