Michael Bernardo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by San Tan Mountain View Funeral Home and Advance Planning Center on Feb. 13, 2026.
Michael "Mike" C. Bernardo passed away January 16, 2026 at his home in San Tan Valley,
Arizona. He was born August 8th 1959 in San Jose California the son of Conrado Bernardo and
the late Delores Bernardo.
Driven by an endless thirst for knowledge, Mike was a lifelong learner. A brilliant mind from the
start, he excelled in his studies, earning a full college scholarship and the prestigious
sponsorship of a California Senator. He had a passion for discovering new things and the
unswerving pursuit of truth. As the oldest of seven children, he was a natural leader who loved
playing softball with his brothers.
His journey took him from San Jose to Tucson in 1980, where he pursued his education and
found his true calling in technology. An early adopter of the digital age Mike dedicated 20 years
to the University of Arizona Libraries as a skilled System Administrator. He later brought his
expertise to the City of Tempe IT Department.
Beyond Mikes professional life he was a man of vibrant passions, love and joy even through his
long battle with diabetes, kidney disease and the devastating toll it presents. Mikes greatest
joy was performing with various bands presenting his powerful and soulful baritone heartland
rock voice. Mike and Angela shared a love of travel and adventure. Wherever their journeys
took them, Mike always made it a point to find a stage and sing karaoke.
At home Mike enjoyed sharing his knowledge of music with Colton and Wyatt to whom he
played the role of Poppa. Mike loved cooking up new culinary dishes, gardening, and sharing
his delights with family and friends. He also loved having his family over for summer swimming
and play or holidays. With a deep appreciation for cars, Mike could often be found browsing
local car shows.
Mike leaves a legacy of love, patience, humor, perseverance, inspiration, curiosity and learning
that will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly
missed and forever remembered.
Preceded in death by his mother, Delores Castro Bernardo. Mike is survived by his loving
partner Angela of San Tan Valley, his father Conrado Bernardo, and his six siblings, Steven (Tina)
of Gilbert, Arizona, Jeffrey (Kim), Tony (Jill), Carol (Dave), Susanne (Carl), and Neil (Melissa) of
Tucson, Arizona along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday April 11, 2026 at Copper Basin Community Center
at 28300 N Main St, San Tan Valley, AZ at 4:00 p.m.
