Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ware Funeral Home on Apr. 4, 2025.
Born October 29, 1957, in
Chillicothe, Ohio, to the late Victor O. and Mary J. Ginther Bigler, Michael was a man of sharp intellect, deep generosity, and unshakable determination. He graduated from Bishop Flaget High School before attending the University of Cincinnati, where he served as student body vice president, and later earned his law degree from Notre Dame Law School. It was in Cincinnati that Michael met his first partner, Susan, who played a crucial role in supporting him while he pursued his legal career. Following law school, he clerked for Judge William J. Bauer on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, a milestone that marked the beginning of his legal career in Ohio.
Later in life, Mike stepped away from law to pursue a new chapter-opening a restaurant in Cincinnati's Northside with his second partner, Austin. Though the restaurant was short-lived, it was a reflection of his adventurous spirit and willingness to take risks.
A father above all else, Michael instilled in his children, David Bigler of New York and Lisa Dooley of West Chester, the values of education, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence. He pushed them to challenge themselves, to think critically, and to carve their own paths in life. He was also a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren, who loved him dearly and will carry his memory forward.
Those who knew him will remember a man with a big heart and a sharp mind, someone who gave freely to others even when it was not always returned in kind. His story, like all good ones, had its struggles, but in the end, he left behind something invaluable-a lasting impact on the lives of those who loved him.
Michael is survived by his children, David and Lisa; his five beloved grandchildren; his brothers, Tim (Pat) Bigler of Hamilton and Joe (Joyce) Bigler of Columbus; his sisters, Jenny (Bob) French and Vicky (Bob) Weisenberger, both of Chillicothe; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Barbara Polans and partner Timothy "Austin" Bigler. All of whom loved him dearly.
His family invites those who knew him to honor his memory, not only in mourning but in celebrating a life lived fully. Donations can be made in his honor to the Northside Community Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025 in St. Peter Catholic Church with Rev. Stanislaus John, Celebrant.
