Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lemley Chapel on Mar. 30, 2026.
Michael "Mike" Ray Bossom, age 66, of Sedro-Woolley, Washington passed away March 22 nd, 2026. Mike was born September 17 th, 1959 in Lynnwood, California to Robert and Virginia (Patterson) Bossom.
Growing up in California, Mike was an active kid. Boy scouts, playing football and was really into wrestling, which he was really good at. In fact, a lot of the family road trips/vacations, were going to wrestling matches. All the kids piled into Mom and Dad's station wagon and off they'd go!
When Mike was about 27, he met a young gal named Dawn. She was a friend of his sisters and later worked for Virginia. That's how they started dating. Virginia set them up to go to Magic Mountain together and that's how it began. Then, along came Laura in 1989 while they still lived in California. In 1990, the small family moved to Washington and Chris joined the family in 1991.
Mike loved his family so much that he quit over the road trucking and found a job locally to be with his kids more. He was the camp cook; a job he took seriously. Making sure he had everything to feed the group with: oven, stoves etc., whatever it took to provide the best camp food around. Mike also loved to bake; a trait he got from his dad. Mike would do all the baking for the kids' birthday cakes or any holiday event. Mike was the guy! Mike and Dawn were always involved with their kids' adventures. Mike was a Cub Scout and then a Boy Scout leader for Pack 67 and then Troop 70. To this day, the kids remember Mike's truck all decorated in Mike fashion, all the way, to win the Christmas parade in Sedro-Woolley.
Mike was always a worker. Some of his first jobs were working at the family restaurant called the G&M, or other fast-food work. But his passion was driving truck; something Mike was very good at. After Mike decided he needed to stay closer to home, he went to college and got his degree in diesel mechanics from Skagit Valley College, graduating in 1994. Another thing Mike was good at, being a mechanic. Mike then went to work for a furniture making company. There Mike found yet another thing he excelled at. Mike made furniture for everyone. It is a source of pride for the family to have a Mike built piece in their homes. From there as the kids got older, back on the road for a bit. There is no wonder that after finishing his career on the road, he retired as a full-time handyman. He could build it or fix it. And had ALL the tools to get the jobs done.
Mike will be incredibly missed by everyone that knew him – his kids, family and more friends than can be counted.
Mike is survived by his wife Dawn, children Laura Shanks, and Chris (Samantha) Bossom; grandchildren Brianna and Hailey Shanks, Henry Bossom and another Bossom coming soon! Also, sisters Cheri Knapf, brother Terry Bossom and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Mike was proceeded in death by his parents; brother Jeffrey Bossom and sister Carol Bragrassa.
A service to honor Mike will be held Saturday, April 4 th at 12:00 noon, officiated by Pastor Greg Hall, at Cascade Christian Church, 534 Township St Sedro-Woolley, WA were Mike attended for many years. A lunch will be immediately after the service at the Church.
A graveside service will be held on Monday April 6th at 1PM at Hawthorne Memorial Park in Mount Vernon, WA.
