Michael Branch

A lifelong resident of Mora, Michael Branch, 81 was born August 19, 1943. He was a proud graduate of New Mexico Highlands University where he earned his Master of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. Michael enjoyed giving back to his community through teaching second grade at Holman and Mora Elementary School for over 30 years. During his free time, Michael loved traveling far and wide. Some of his most memorable vacations included trips to Spain, the Bahamas, Hawaii, Disney World, and Las, Vegas, Nevada.
Michael approached life with a cheerful, easygoing attitude, but was also a true fighter and overcame various challenges. Perhaps his greatest victory was in recovering from a stroke ten years ago, after medical personnel predicted he wouldn't survive the night. Michael went on to create many more beautiful memories with those he held dear and continued to enjoy numerous pastimes. He was an avid sports fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Dodgers, Mora Rangers, and in recent years, the Robertson Cardinals. Michael also enjoyed watching Westerns, and sports; Treks to casinos, cruising, and sharing good meals with friends and family, especially during the holiday season.
On October 21, 2024 Michael passed away peacefully following a battle with illness, but he never gave up hope – something that his family will carry on, along with his legacy of compassion and grace under fire. Michael is preceded in death by his father and mother; Richard Branch and Grace Madrid Branch; brothers, Richard Branch, Benjamin Branch, and Louie Pacheco and sister, Eva Ortega.
Michael is survived by his brothers; James (Darlene) Branch, Gerry Branch, Joseph Branch; nieces, Ashley Branch and Jennifer Branch (Jacob), dearest friend and caregiver, Roberta Fernandez, and many other nieces, nephews, and friends. The family was so blessed to have such a loving son, brother, uncle, and cousin; his personality personified family, friendship, humor, and kindness to everyone he came in touch with during his lifetime.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Rogers Mortuary Chapel in Las Vegas, NM.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Mora, NM. Interment will follow at El Rito Presbyterian Cemetery in Chacon, NM with the following serving as Pallbearers; Baltazar Olivas, James Olivas, Jimmy Sandoval, Jason Atencio, Douglas Velarde, and Albert Martinez.
