Michael "Mike" D. Browning, 73, of Grand Island passed away, surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 2, 2024.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at True North Church in Grand Island.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024 at True North Church. Pastor Paul Canady will officiate.
All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
Mike was born on May 24, 1950 at Minden, NE, son of Robert and Ruth (Tilbury) Browning. He grew up in Axtell and Holdrege graduated from Holdrege High School in 1968, where he was involved in many musical programs and also sports. Mike attended Kearney State College for one year.
On June 7, 1969 he married Joan Carlson and they made their home in Holdrege before moving to Grand Island.
Throughout his life he was a dedicated employee and hard worker. He learned from a young age while helping his grandparents on their farm, the value of a job well done. Mike was employed as a diesel mechanic for Speedway Transportation and Romans Trucking. He retired from Bosselman Tank and Trailer where he had started in the parts department before moving to sales.
Mike was a member of True North Church. He had a beautiful bass voice and loved to sing in the Barbershop quartet, an acapella group and yearly with the Signing Christmas tree, or any other way he could share his love for music with the community. He loved to travel to attend Gaither Vocal Band concerts.
Mike enjoyed visiting family and weeklong camping trips in Minnesota.
Mike was an avid high school football fan and spent his Friday nights in the stands cheering on Grand Island Senior High, Northwest High School or Aurora. He loved to attend his grandsons' Trap shooting meets and took it upon himself to cheer for many of their friends, becoming an honorary grandpa to other teammates. He was a friend of Bill W. Mike enjoyed meeting friends for weekly breakfast and he knew all the restaurants best breakfast meal. Mike's family will cherish his values and love.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Ron (Tricia) Browning of Blair, NE and Jean Browning (Jason Stover) of St. Paul, NE; mother, Ruth Browning of Holdrege; grandsons, Kaleb Browning, Jacob (Kennedy) Browning and Andrew Browning; great-grandson, Rowan; brother, Tony Browning of Holdrege; numerous extended family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Robert; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Lois Carlson.

Thinking of Mikes family . I was very saddened to see his obituary. I have waited on him for years on Saturday mornings at Perkins, we used to joke around all the time, he always had a smile on his face ! Mike will be greatly missed . Brandi Billips
