Michael Bury Obituary
Michael, an accomplished hunter, loved to be in the woods, whether searching for the trophy buck or simply spending time with his friends and brothers, this was his place.
He was the firstborn of six to his namesake, Michael, and Adeline (Athernaught) Bury on Sept. 19, 1948. At 18, Michael made the decision to join the U.S. Navy. This would prove to be one that took him and his family around the United States, and the world. He had tremendous success throughout his career, ultimately achieving the much-respected and sought-after distinction of master chief. Serving the Navy and our country with high regard was a great source of reward and pride.
In the summer of 1968, Michael met his love, Anna "Louise" Good. Married shortly after in the summer of 1969, Michael and Louise began their lives together - first, in Morocco, Africa, where they had the first of their two children, Dawn Michelle Bury. The pair later welcomed their second child, Michael Oran Bury, stateside. While perfectly imperfect, Michael loved his wife dearly and with devotion for 56 years.
A man of few words and many friends, his wit, intellect and kindness drew others toward him. Michael was determined to celebrate his 77th birthday. He achieved this goal and the next day, smiling, he passed peacefully surrounded by his wife and two children, with a full heart.
Michael is survived by his two children, Dawn Devereaux and Michael Bury; his dear wife, Anna "Louise" Bury; his only grandchild, Peyton Devereaux; and his brothers, Greg and Kenneth Bury.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Anthony Bury; and a sister, Mariam Lucas.
Michael will be deeply missed and will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
BURY - A memorial service with military rites for Michael Bury, who died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to CARSON/BOYER FUNERAL HOME, Rural Valley.
