Michael Joseph Butz

1963 - 2023

Michael Joseph Butz, 59, passed away peacefully at his dream home on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, in Seneca, S.C. He was born Oct. 25, 1963, the beloved son of David and Louise Butz formerly of Gates Mills. He was also the loving father of Reilly Butz (Elisabeth Montalvo), Kellen and Ciara Westbrook; dear brother of David (Sharon) Butz of Canton, Gerold (Kelly) Butz of Rockledge, Fla., and Cathy (Brad) Hughes of Worthington, who will forever hold in their hearts the days spent at the County Line Road home and summers at Put-In-Bay; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. Michael graduated from Gilmore Academy in 1982, where he enjoyed playing soccer. He went on to graduate from Bethany College in 1987 with a degree in business. At the time of his passing, he was an Authentication Specialist at RSA Security. Michael had a zest for life and enjoyed his car, cooking, music, making homemade wine and watching his favorite Cleveland sports teams. He took great pride in his work and was looking forward to enjoying the sunshine with the love of his life, Deanna, in their new home on Lake Keowee. He will be remembered as a loyal brother, friend, father, son, and partner, who will be deeply missed. Family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 3, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at the Little Church in the Vale, 610 Chagrin River Road, in Gates Mills.
