Michael Caplan Obituary
Michael was a humble man who lived a very storied life, though he would never think of it that way. He was a kind and generous man who would do anything for family and friends. He was an Air Force Veteran, honorably discharged, who served stateside during the Vietnam War as a jet engine mechanic.
Michael had been involved with cars since the age of 13, which led to his career as an auto mechanic. He was a Mechanic's Mechanic who constantly studied car repair as they evolved from mechanical devices to computers on wheels. He also spent 35 years in the Baltimore City Fire Department, working his way up from Firefighter to Shift Commander. He was injured on the job fighting the Howard Street Train Tunnel fire in 2001. Despite this incident, Michael still enjoyed collecting trains as well as model cars. He loved country music, especially old school classics. He also practiced Tai Chi at the U.S. Kuo Shu Academy in Owings Mills, winning numerous medals and awards.
Michael is survived by his loving wife Connie Caplan, his step-son Scott H. Stevens, daughter-in-law Yolanda U. Ogena-Stevens, and the young man who always brought a smile to his face, his grandson Henry O. Stevens. Also survived by his cousins Tom and Marlene Bates and their sons Jason, Josh, Jared and their families and cousins Martha Pritzker and Jeffrey and Scottie Pritzker. In addition to his current family, Michael was predeceased by his first wife Carole Sue Caplan.
Friends are welcome to attend his viewing on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 4pm to 7pm at John W. Keffer Funeral Home, 902 Mt. Rose Ave., York, PA 17403. A second viewing will be held at St. Patrick Church, 231 S. Beaver St. in York, on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 10am. A Mass will be held at 11am, followed by a military Honor Guard ceremony at St. Patrick and then the funeral procession to the Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Rosedale, MD.

I met Mike Caplan around 45 years ago when I was a young guy pumping gas at a Citgo gas station in Woodlawn md. Mike was a part time mechanic, while serving as a Baltimore City Firefighter. For a couple of years Mike and I worked together and became friends.
I was in search of a career and Mike pushed me towards the City Fire Department.
I decided to join the Baltimore City police department, in 1980. Mike was one of my background references.
Over the years we went on our paths. But I never forgot how kind he was to me.
Rest in peace Mike and god bless your family.

A good man with a very god sense of humor. I could always get him to laugh. I rode motorcycles with Mike a few time. He was a skilled rider and you could tell, when he was on the bike he was having a great time.
Mike, my old friend, You will truly be missed by quit a few people. Rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Mikes Passing.I have been friends with Mike,a,long time ago.I first met him when he was living with his mother,at Liberty West Apartments in Rockdale Many years ago,And him and his mother were my neighbors.He used to work on my cars,years ago,And we both had a mutual interest, in the Baltimore City Fire Department.I served as an Auxiliary Firefighter in Baltimore City years ago,And he was a career Baltimore City Firefighter,Starting from A firefighter,And than advancing thru the ranks to Shift Commander,When he retired.Many Saturday mornings,we used to have breakfasts together at the Double TT Diner in Catonsville.Mike was a good friend of mine,and I will miss him sorely.My deepest sympathy goes out to his family,Rest in peace Mike! You will be missed.
