It is with deeply heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael James Carlson, Sr. Michael, affectionately known as just "Mike" to his family and friends, was born on November 9, 1959, in Great Falls, Montana, to parents James Edward Carlson and Jeanette Marie (Berkeley) Carlson. Michael departed this world from his Texas residence, on September 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He will be forever missed by all those who have the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Mike grew up alongside his sister, Deborah, and from an early age was known for his genuine nature. Mike always went out of his way for the people he loved, and his devotion to his family became the defining quality of his life.
Mike began his professional journey in 1979 with Prudential in Illinois as a Sales Representative. His dedication and natural leadership quickly earned him promotions. For more than two decades with Prudential, he became known for building agencies, developing teams, and driving consistent growth.
On October 17, 1997, Mike married Julie N. Duggan in
Rockwall, Texas. Their marriage was one of deep love and partnership, and they built a life centered on family, faith, and adventure. Together, they raised their children and created countless memories of traveling, celebrating milestones, and enjoying time spent with one another.
In 2000, Mike chose to take early retirement from Prudential and, together with Julie, launched their own agency, Carlson Financial. This venture paved the way for Mike to introduce a new way of financing premiums through life insurance. In 2011, he became a partner and owner in Monolith Group, where he continued to build this concept of financing insurance through bonds.
Outside of work, Mike was a man of many passions. He loved the game of golf and could often be found on the course with his boys or good friends. A true sports fan, he especially loved cheering for his Las Vegas Golden Knights and watching both college and professional football. Go Vikings! He enjoyed traveling with Julie, curating his unique cigar collection, and spending quiet evenings at home with his cat, Miss Macy AKA "precious princess." But above all, nothing mattered more to him than time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Mike's life was marked not only by professional accomplishments but by the way he cared for his loved ones. He was a committed husband, a devoted father, and a proud grandfather who never failed to make those around him feel valued.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, James and Jeanette Carlson. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 28 years, Julie Carlson of Copper Canyon, Texas; his children, Nick Carlson and wife Amy, Derek Carlson and wife Amy, Kailey Carlson, and Michael Carlson, Jr. and wife Makayla; and his grandchildren, Ryker and Wyatt Carlson, Maxwell Carlson, Carson and Madden Gill, and Elaine and Autumn Carlson.
