Michael Cashel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clark Funeral Home - Neosho on Aug. 7, 2024.
Michael Edward Cashel was born September 8, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri. He entered into rest on August 6, 2024, at Medical Lodge after a brave struggle with Parkinsons and dementia.
Mike became a very devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals at a very young age. He and his brother Dan used to ride the bus to the games back when they could sit in the cheap seats for a quarter. He became a collector of memorabilia of the Cardinals and the St. Louis Browns. The result is an impressive collection that has been featured on television.
After his dad was transferred with the Frisco Railroad, the family moved to Springfield, Missouri. Mike graduated from St. Agnes High School in 1966. He then entered St. John's School of Radiology, graduating in 1969. There he met his future wife who was a nursing student at St. John's.
Mike and Eraina Oehring were married June 26, 1971. After a year in Springfield, they moved to Neosho, Missouri where Mike got a job at Sale Memorial Hospital in the x-ray department. This was the beginning of a very rewarding career which lasted 43 years.
When he wasn't working, Mike enjoyed playing softball and made lifelong friends in the process. He also enjoyed running and could be seen jogging the streets and hills of Neosho. Mike was a lifelong and devout Catholic and was a member of St. Canera Parish in Neosho. Mike worked hard and played hard, always giving 100%. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Vernon Cashel of Springfield and by his in-laws, David and Mae Oehring of Neosho. Mike is survived by his wife of 53 years and by his son Matthew Cashel and daughter Chelsey Cashel both of Neosho. He is also survived by his brother, Dan Cashel, sister JoAnn Bailes (Scott) of Springfield, sister Therese Miller (Larry) of Jefferson City, and sister Eileen Hampton (Shelby) of Mandeville, Louisiana. He is also survived by several cherished nieces and nephews
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff of Medical Lodge and Gentiva Hospice, with a special thanks to Elsa.
Visitation will be at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho on Monday, August 12 from 5-7 pm, with a Memorial Mass at St. Canera on Tuesday, August 13, at 1 pm.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Canera, or Tunnel to Towers C/O Clark Funeral Home P.O. Box 66, Neosho, Missouri 64850
