Michael Cavanagh Obituary

Michael J. Cavanagh, 80
1945 - 2025
Amesbury - Michael J. Cavanagh, age 80, of Amesbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury. He was the husband of Patricia (MacLean) Cavanagh, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. Born in Somerville in 1945 to the late John and Gertrude (McKenna) Cavanagh, he had lived in Lynn for the greater part of his life.
Michael attended St. Pius V School and St. Mary's High School, graduating in 1962. His fondest memory was when St. Mary's played the combined Lynn Schools Football Team and won. He attended Northeastern University and then proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the 11th Armored Calvary from 1967-1969. He worked for the City of Lynn from 1970-1982 and was then a clerk at the Salem Post Office from 1982-2009 when he retired.
Michael enjoyed spending time at the Division 10 Hibernians, the Arena Café, the Porthole Pub, Sea Gaels in Nahant and Tony's Pub. He enjoyed all the friends he met and spent time with at those places.
In addition to his wife Patti, Michael leaves his daughters, Amy (Cavanagh) O'Neill and her husband Brian, and Molly Cavanagh and her fiancé Nico DiPrimo, his siblings, Mark Cavanagh and Maryann Cavanagh, and his sister-in-law, Jacquie Cavanagh. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Lennox and Declan O'Neill and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Paul Cavanagh, Jack Cavanagh and Cathy Quinlan. His warm laugh and gentle kindness will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Service Information: His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:30AM from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, Lynn at 10:30AM.
